The Hydraulic Diss, a. Hose.—We have hei sisi a specimen of hydraulic hose sewing, performed by a machine invented by Quartus Rice. It _ mnakes three parallel seams, which are even, strong and enduring, and we should think pref. erable to labor of the same kind done by hand. The ‘propriet tors have a certificate to that effect from A. M. Strobridge & Co., of Sebastopol, who have been using the hose, and recommend it. . The cost at which this hose can be manufactured . and furnished to the miners of San Juan and . vicinity, it is said, will only be from twelve to fifteen cents per yard more than thé-plain duck. : ing sells for ip this market. The proprietors . (Horton & Staats) . have also a newly-discovered . of Tennessee, have probably gone for Brecken. proc css which is applied to the hose, and which . “preserves it from rust, mildew and rot. Weare “*nuthorised to receive orders for the sale of this . * “of * . hose ; and we make this proposition, to-wit, that . the first comer shall be furnished with hose of the indestfuctible kind without extra charge. 2 @e,“Ww ILDER’S New B AKERY.—We e ‘took a peep a ccwceine. eceevni .—The any . news of the . 14th, puts the question of the Presidential con. . test at rest. Lincoln is chosen by the people. . The Union’s special dispatch states that he has carried Massnchusetts by 70,000 majority, Maine by 25,000, New Hamshire 10,000, Indiana 235,000, Pennsylvania 50,000, Rhode Island 5,000, . Vermont 40,000, Wisconsin 10,000, New York . 50,000, Ohio 40,000. He has also carried Iowa, Connecticut, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon and California. These States give Lincoln 163 of . the electoral vote—eleven more than he requires . to make him President by the popular voice. There is almost a certainty that Lincoln has also catried Illinois, which casts 13 of an‘electotal vote. . . “8 Delaware, Maryland, wna all the States south ridge, including North Carolina and Louisiana. Bell has probably carried Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Missouri, it is thought, has gone for Douglas. Ix Anryancr.—During the earlier part of the week, it was amusing to notice the eager rush of into this newly-opened establishment yesterday. An air of comfort and cleanliness pervaded every . _ department. There are several capacious ovens ; “constructed i ina most convenient and substan. _ tial style. They perform the baking operation to perfection. Mr. Wilder is determined to ramify his business. He has procured a horse and} suitable wagon, with which, on certain specified days, he will carry his ae. crackers and com. fits to the dwellings of his patrons at Swectland, . , Birchville, French Corral, Cherokee, and we! ‘don’t know how many other places. This will . prove a decided convenience, and enable house. wives to dispense with the trouble of home. baking. ~ +--+ & HANDSOME S1gn.—Some time ago we said L. . W. Curtis was a first-rate sign painter. That! _gentleman, wishing to bring the proof of the assertion home to our very door, Wednesday . last embelished one of the panels of that ingres. “sive and egressive convenience with a beautiful . “specimen of his handi-work. They will thus find material for } another cntieasastic article on “high art.” ——_——_——_—--@-—______ ie MotnTAIn Graprs.—We received, last Sat. arday, through Mr. E. T. Jordan, Ridge ex Tider, a box of mountain grapes, raised on the . ‘ranches of Capt. Evans and E. W. Mull, of. -Buckeye Hill, not far from Swectland. The . clusters were immense, and the fruit sweet, juicy and delicious—thus demonstrating, beyond con. ‘tradiction, the adaptability of our soil for prolific . grape culture. The gentlemen, above named are . “giving considerable of their attention jo this! subject. If they would furnish us with some . facts relating to their syccess, the number of, _ Vines they have cultivated, and other informa. tion of this character, they would confer a great . favor, which would be thankfully received. a2 « LOST AND For np.—Cal.
