As the history of Mahomet and bis followers is the history of the Arabian cour. ser; 0 the history of chivalry and romance is that of Europe's war horse. Tancred, the brave, courteous and spotless knight, mirrer and pattern of all chivalry must be tuken on his barbed and dashing charger ; and Cour de Leon, mounted on his war-horse, with glittering mail and helm and bis double-handed sword, flashing in widening circles amid the Panim’s thickest hosts. And the good Sir Kenneth, on his lone pilgrimage, by the black waters of the Dead Sea, way-worn and faint with the desert’s sun, whose beams sickens and whose smiles curse, meets in combat and alene, Saladin himself. Northern men should be nominated—a Northern man who can carry the entire South.—Sucha man is the distinguished patriet whois now leading the Democratic hosts of New York in their contest with Sewardism. His nomination, which we should regard as equivalent te his election would sound the deth-knell of Black Republicaurem. It would be the death of Seward, the archragi. tator, who bolted Fillmore’s Administration and initiated those measures which resulted in the death of the Whig party, and the birth of Black Republicanism. Mr. Dickinson . Would carry the State of New York ; and . he is the only Democrat who can ‘earry that . State, Aad we can never kill Black Republicanism until we have rescued N. In this work, Mr. Dickinson would have the assis— tance of the friends of Fillmore, of the o!d Webster and Clay Whigs ; and Mr. Fillmore friends bold the balance of power in that State. They have net forgotten that Mr. Dickinson sustained the Administration of Fillmore on the Comprom se Measu 1¢8 of 1850, while Seward opposed bis Administration, and sought to break it down ; and whenever the Democracy of the Union gave them a chance. by nominating Mr, Dickinson they will * prove their faith by their works.’ sign to turn out the best Work, for which we have . facilities at least not imferior to those of apy other Establishment on the Pacific Coast, and at the most reasonable prices. It was an emenation from that Divine source whieh Olled tbe hearts ef bis holy apostles and planted Calvary’s Cross from Zion's Mount to Pagan Pantheons. 0. Danxist S. Dickrnsox.—The “ Democratic Standard,’ published Concord N. H., avows its preference for Mr. Dickinson as the Demoeratic candidate for the Presidency, in 1860 and remarks : “ Within a few weeks the expression of the press in every part of the Union in faver of Daniel S. Dickiuson for the Presidency has been remarkable. We have seen newspapers from California, Miseouri, Minnesota Michigan, Pennsylvania, mearly every Northern State, all expressing a preference for the patriot and statesman of New York. And this expression is spontaneous—the out spoken preference of the popular masses, Mr Dickinson, everybody knows, is above intrigue. He wonld not stoop te it for the highest honor or distinction, If the Presidency cannot come to him asa free will offering of his country men he is the last man who would desireit. Asa politician and statesman, he is bold and fearless : as a man modest of demeanor, and of integrity inflexi+ ble. The man does not live in America who possesses more of the stern virtues of the old departed hero ofthe Hermitage thaa Daniel S. Dickinson. With such a man at their head the Democratic hosts would enter the battlefield determined and confident of victory.”’ ' nd
