By the amaoual report of the State Treaeurer, it appears there exists certaia equitable claims against the State, amounting to the sum of $163,000 for which no provision thas ever been made, and is now being virtue . ally repudiated. Some legislation certainly . should be had, whereby these claims would be placed upen the same basis as the ciril funded debt of the State. A Bill was intreduced inte the Senate last year by Sena tor Burton of this county whereby the State could have paid this indebtedness on terms pérfectely satisfactory to the holders and at the same time made a mest excellent financial operation, this bill failed, by a majerity ef one only and would bave passed, bad it pot bave been fer certain constitutional obebjections have surely been brushed away arraigned for conspiring to rob the office of the Nebraska Co.” plead not guilty. NEVADA COUNTY ROAD LAW. We have received from the Hon. Sam’). T. Curtis, whe introduced the bill. a copy of the New Road Law for the County of Nevada. As it has already been published in the Sacramento Union asd Nevada Democrat, the most of our readers who feel an interest in such matters bave ne doubt bad an opportunity of reading it, From abasty examination of its provisions, we should suppose The Road Tax under the New Law is two Jections upon the part of Senators, which . it would give very general satisfaction. by the opinion of the Attorney General, in . 4y8 labor or $4 in cash. The Supervisors anewer to a resolution of the Senate now in ecesion. We hepe the present Legislature, will . take some prompt action in this matter, It) bas threagh bad management, been suffered . to lay too long already. The odium attached te repudiation of any just debt is the same Re matter how smal! the amount, and it certainly looks like suicidal policy to pay nearly foar millions of dellars of equitable in@ebtedness (as has been done by our St ate) . and thea allow a claim of $163.000 each and . every individual portion of which is as just @ debt as any which has been paid, to stand to all intents and purpeses,—repudiated. PUBLIC SCHOOL EXQIBITION. The pupils ef the Public School of this place, amder charge of Mr. J. W. Nye as Principal and Mies S. A. When this sum is paid, all incumbrances on the house will be removed. There will, however, be equitable claims still outstanding against the house te the amount of about $1172, which it is the intention of the Trustees to liquidate as fast as possible from the Schoo! Building Fand. We append astatewent of the io-. debtedness, which is correct, save, perhaps 8 . few dollars, more or less, in the matter of interest. The House bas cost...... $3881.21 .
