. ——— GL N THIS BOOKLET we show some of the highlights of the Wells Fargo Historical Collection, many of the items being actual mementos of Wells Fargo Bank's participation in Western pioneer development. The period covered is from 1848, the year Marshall discovered gold in California, through 1869, when the transcontinental railroad was completed, ushering in the modern West. During the Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939-40, this collection was loaned to the City of San Francisco, and formed part of the City’s official exhibit at Treasure Island, where it was seen by more than 2,000,000 Fair visitors. Today, the entire collection is on display on the ground floor at the Wells Fargo Office on Montgomery Street at Market. Visitors and interested San Franciscans are cordially invited to come in during any banking day.
