. ORIGINAL GRASS VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, constructed in 1922-23 of brick-bearing walls, is now
. the object of critical remarks and poses a particularly difficult housing problem for the 1966-67
school term, its last year of scheduled use. The two story building contains ten classrooms restrooms and an assembly hall on the lower floor and five classrooms and the balcony portion on the
upper floor. The building was declared structurally unsafe for occupancy in 1950, the same year
Nevada Union High School District was formed from the Grass Valley and Nevada City high school
districts. Following several bond elections a new high school was constructed and just last year
another bond issue was approved for enlargement of the new high school fo accommodate all the}
‘district high school students, eliminating need of housing students in the condemned portion of
the old Grass Valley High School building. After several false starts in planning for the education
of local students for 1966-67 by using the building one more year and just two months before
school convenes the state Division of Industrial Safety has decreed it cannot be used this final year
until repaired structurally.
