f Large and Active Fa ily, Dies
A part of the history of Well
ley passed away yesterday
afternoon with the death of Mary
’ Blizabeth Ingram, wife of the late
State Senator Tom Ingram (1928)
and maternal head of a large local
family.
She had been hospitalized at the
' Jones Memorial Hospital since
‘eb. 8 following a severe illness.
Although she regained her health
after several relapses the past
few mdnths, her passing at 3:20
p:m. yesterday followed a quick
succession of setbacks and was
somewhat sudden.
‘Until last Fevruary’s illness she
igularly performed her own
shopping chores and lived alone
at her home of more than 60
yéars, 332 East Main street. Posséssing a remarkable memory for
dates, names and occasions, she
S an unqualified source of historic information. Next Oct. 5 she
ould have been 82 years of age.
My Born in Nevada
"She was born in Copper Canyon
near Battle Mountain, Nevada, in
the north central portion of the
state. the first child born in that
early day mining camp. Her parents, Charles Thomas and Mary
Hannah Vincent Thomas, were of
ornish descent.
When the Thomas family mirated west over the Sierras, she
was one-and-a-half years of age
id made the trip by mule back.
he family settled in Grass Valley
in the early 1880's.

At the time of his election to the
state senatorial post Ingram,
known as “Boss” to his associates and family, was managing
editor of The Union for publisher
William F. Prisk. Ingram died in
1928 while serving as state senator.
The Ingrams built and had lived
in the East Main street home continuously for over 60 years.
Active in Church
Following her presentation of a
50-year membership pin by the
Aurora Chapter Order of Eastern
Star she became, an honorary
member, her only fraternal affiliation. She was also an active
member of the First Methodist
Church. .
She lived an independent life
following the death of her husband
over 30 years ago. Her main interests were her home, garden,
neighbors and family.
Survivors include her, daughter,
Mrs. Marcelene Squires of Sacramento and four sons, Robert T. Ingram, Grass Valley; Charles Ingram, Sacramento; and Merris Ingram, Grass Valley, and a sister,
Alrena B. Ellison, Arcadia. Also
bereaved are eight grandchildren:
Gordon Ingram, Jr. of Sacramento; Carl, Erik and Kristine Ingram of Grass Valley; Tom
Squires and Marilyn Steffani of
Sacramento; Peter Ingram of Nevada City; and Pat Ingram of
Sacramento, There are 11 great
grandchildren surviving. Several cousins and more distant reltaives live in China Lake
and Riverside, Calif., and in Utah.
Funeral services have been
scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at
the Hooper-Weaver Mortuary. The
Rev. E. Lester Lewis of the First
Methodist Church will officiate.
Interment will follow in the local
