Ethel Lord Brady, member of .

The late Mrs, Brady was a nat‘ive of Grass Valley, a daughter
‘of Mr. and Mrs, Will G. Lord and
in earlier years taught music in
this city. Her father was the first
manager for the Bell Telephone .
in Grass Valley and also operat-.
ed Lord’s Livery Stable as had)
his father George Lord, before .
him. The original Lord home was
located on Richardson street and
later Mr. and Mrs. Will Lord
built their home on Bennett
street.
‘The Lord and Brady families
were among the more active in the
community before the turn of the
century.

‘midst the soul of our late Superintendent of Public Works and beloved
friend, daseph, Birkett, and
WHEREAS: It is only fitting and
proper that we should at this time,
as an expression of the esteem in
which he was held by the citizens of
our city, and particularly by the City
‘Council, pay a tribute of respect to
his memory, now ©
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That Joseph Birkett was a man of .
inestimable worth, whose honor and
integrity were above reproach; that
his mature judgment and wise coun~sel will be sorely missed by this counsel and the People of the City of
Grass Valley; that the state, county
and city have lost one of. their best
and noblest citizens, and his family

a kind and loving husband and father; that while his sudden taking
away seems most untimely, still we
bow in humble submission to the dic-.
tate of an All Wise Providence, and
recommend his family to the mercy
and consolation of Him who docth all
things well. And, be it further
RESOLVED: That these resolutions
be spread upon the minutes of the
Council, and a copy be published in
