Herbert Nile
of Penn Valley
dies in hospital
Herbert James Nile, a noted
farmer in the Penn Valley area
died at the age of 88 in Nevada
General Hospital Tuesday,
Mr, Nile spent most of his
career as superintendent of operations at Nevada Irrigation
District, He owned a Grass Valley real estate business for
Several years and after retirement served on the NID Board
of Directors,
He was noted for growing exceptional fruits and vegetables
in the Penn Valley area,
Mr. Nile was a native of
Penn Valley, born on the ranch
his grandparents homesteaded,
He resided in Nevada county for
all but 2 1/2 of his years,
He was a member of Lodge
No. 12 of 10.0,F. for 60 years
and a 70-year member of the
Grass Valley Met! sdist Church,
He was a member of the Nevada
City Rotary Club and the Nevada County Historical Society.
_ Mr, Nile wrote several of his
“Tecolléction for’ the historical
society recalling Indians who
visited the Nile Rarch during
his youth,
Through his life Mr. Nile
was active with Camp Fire
Girls and Boy Scout organizations. For his activities in
Grass Valley he was awarded
the Silver Beaver Award.
Mr. Nile is survived by his
wife, Elsie; a daughter, Esther
Warren of Sacramento; a son,
James of Mt. Shasta; stepdaughters Jane Taylor of Sonoma,
Betty Presley of Mill Valley
and Patricia Benson of Sacramento; 14 grandchildren and
two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
at Hooper and Weaver Chapel
Friday at 11 a.m. Interment
will follow at Indian Springs
Cemetery.
