ye over the Pacific ocean and visualizing a World Union of the WCTU. . In 1883 Miss Frances Willard visited the Pacific Coast and visualized the future of the W.C.T.U movement. Shortly after that Mrs. Mary Clement Leavett of Boston at the National Convention was made round-the world missionary for the WCTU and she started her work with countries across the Pacific islands and the Orient, { Band Around World In 1883, Mrs. Stuart, known as mother Stuart, of New York, started the European campaign. Both Mrs. Leavett and Mrs. Stuait were sent by the W.C.T.U., from the national convention. irs. Leavett went to estabiish unions beyond the Pacific Ocean; and Mrs. Stuart crossed the Allantic Ocean to unite the European Countries in this big temperance movement. Both accomplished their tasks. . In 1886, the World Union was . ' well on its way to be established. } Our National W.C.T.U, was the frst organization to establish a . World Union for the benefit cf, humanity. The aim was “World . Peace.” In 1887 it was reported that the\ women of the W.C.T.U. had begun to accomplish what far-seeing . ‘statesmen and politicians were looking forward to in the dim and distant future—a National Feder-, ation of the World. Really, this. was the first glimmer of hope for . the United Nations. But Frances Willard visioned the . whole thing: TO WRAP THE WHITE RIBBON AROUND ThE WORLD: and THIS HAS COME . ' TO PASS. is . WCTU Elects _ Officers and Honors Member On Tuesday afternoon, September 28, at the home of Mrs. Allen Miller, 149 So. Auburn street, a special meeting of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union was held at which officers were chosen for the next year were as follows: President, Mrs. Nettie Bevard; Vice President, Mrs. Margaret Melton; Recording and Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. ‘Mabel Kechley; Treasurer, Mrs. Katie, Wheeler; Auditor, Mrs. Shirley Miller; Pianist, Mrs. Lydia Ruth-. erford; Sunshine Chairman. Mrs. . Anne Bastear; Devotions Chairman, Mrs. Estella Weyel. It was moved and seconded that. a different program chairman be, appointed for each month. (Besides the business meeting there was an interesting program . ‘consisting of the following: (Devotions, by Mrs. Margaret Melton. Vocal Solo, “No One Ever Loved ‘Me Like Jesus,” by ‘Mrs. Shirley Miller. Piano Solo, Mrs. Mabel Kechely. Vocal Solo, “The Holy City,” by Mrs. Shirley Miller. (Lovely and fitting tribute by Mrs. Bessie King, honoring a departed beloved and very helpful member, ‘Mrs. Beatrice Roberts. A beautiful bouquet of flowers ‘was presented by Mrs. Amanda Best for this ceremony.
