David A. Daniel
Die
nf d~Augustus Daniel, 71,
nafive of "Nevada City died yesterday morning at the Nevada
County Hospital. We had been ill
since December of last year.
Rorn here on July 12, 1887, the
deceased man attended’ local
schools and was employed by the
Idaho-Maryland Mines for 21 years
as a shaft boss. He later worked
for the North Star Mines but left

was cabinet making, which he!
earried on in his home shop. ;
He was the devoted husband of

gousins who survive Daniel. The
Daniel coupe had celebrated their

Dies in Hospital

street, Grass Valley, died at 6:45
this morning at the Nevada
County Hospital, terminating a
lengthy illness. }
A native of Nevada county, she’
was born March 9, 1876.
Bereaved survivors are her two
sisters, Mrs. Elsie Hicks and Mrs.
Pearle Barker, both of 394 Clark
street; and a nephew, Lou Wanamake, Nevada City.
Private services ‘will be held
Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the HooperWeaver Mortuary at’ 10:30 a, m.
Interment will follow in the fam-)

Ernest Daniels
Funeral services for Ernest Henry Daniels, 75, son of early day
ner Mr and Mrs Henry Daniels and lifelong resident of this
city, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Hooper Weaver Mortuary.
The Rev. B. Lester Lewis of the
First Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the

Dies at Vallejo
Agnes Erb Devlin, born in Nevida County and da’ ghter of the
late John Erb, wealthy early day
hydraulic gold miner, died in her
home in Vallejo Wednesday morning after a long illness.
Mrs. Devlin was the widow of
the late Frank R. Devlin, Superior
Court judge and Republican leader.
She is survived by three daughters, Miss Marion Devlin, society
editor of the Vallejo Times-Herald family plot, Masonic Cemetery
vices.
Daniels was born Jan. 24, 1885,]
in the Dr. David McMartin office;
building which is still standing on
his schooling locally and was first
employed by his father in the drayage and hauling business. Later
he worked in the mines, topside

Ely until about 20 years ago
and the Fowler lumber mill as a
eam driver. In 1922 he operated
‘the first service station in Grass
Valley at the corner of Neal and
South Auburn streets. For 14
years he managed the Shell station, finally leasing the site to the
oil company and retiring.
He was a 50 year member of
the local Quartz Parlor, NSGW.
Besides his wife Elizabeth who
survives him, he also leaves many
cousins, Ethel’ Holland of San
Francisco, Thelma Meachum of
Pamona, Margaret Jannerjahn of
Detroit, Mich.; and others in the
United States and England.

Dies in Hospital
of Long Illness

eight years ago and Mrs.
