The top photo is reputed to have been
taken in Birchville, Nevada County in
1905. The gentleman is semi-retired since
his hobby might be called “Semipublishing.” How’s that for an obscure
clue?

a neacaies Burial will be held at 10 a.m, Tuesday in
Grass Valley’s St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with interment to
‘follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
A native of Nevada County, Mr. Fontz was born in 1890 in
_ Lake City; He attended schools in North Bloomfield and later
moved to Grass Valley where he was employed in the local
mines. .
A past police chief of Grass Valley, Mr. Fontz was also a
ronmers abn Valley Superintendent of Public Works of 13
years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of St.
Patrick’s Church. é
Surviving are ason, John Brock Fontz of Sacramento; two
daughters, Beatrice Wickstrom and Beverly Locke of Grass
Valley; and two grandchildren,.
