Young America In "Gems from the Journal" humorous and malicious remarks are ascribed to A. A. Sargent by Davidge. Local items: iA Claims on Mancineta Hill being worked and owned by 0. IM. Porlinson. Also Clarkson & Maltman's "Empire and Pacific Co." Tunnels and shafts in Mancineta Hill. New class in Nevada City located on "new" hill--Bourbon Hill. Grass Valley Telegraph "has just appeared" (after Young America). Editor, J. H. Oliver. Nevada County members of the legislature: Senate--William RH. Lyons and J. T. Crenshaw; Assembly--J. H. Bostwick, H. Sweetland, J. N. int Dowley. &. Burton and W. Lindsay were Whig candidates. 2 November 1855 Telegraph is now in operation between San Francisco, San Jose, Stockton, Sacramento, and Marysville. Has been open for two weeks now. 9 November 1853 Paper changed this date to an evening paper. Mr. Williams is extending his water pipe along upper Main St. to the top of the hill. Our city has at this time 3000 yards of pipe conveying water from mountoin springs to most of the houses in Nevada City. ("The city should have a reservoir above end larger pipes"). There is a scarcity of brick in our locality. This w rection of buildings that otherwise would be built this f will open with a great demand for this article. i11 prevent the all. This is an average yvreld. ne ore from this mine brings $110 a ton. 30 November 1853 Young America receives a new and larger press. The recently invented press is capable of 30,000 imprints per hour. The previous limit was 15,000. A. A. Sargent is named editor of the Journal. "New England Society " (Sons of New England) Lodge will meet. The California Chronicle (S. F.) commences publication. 7 December 1853 Little York Blue Lead recommenced -$5 per pan. Middle Terry Bridge at Robinson Crossing, South Yuba, completed.
