-The NEVADA DEMOCRAT -1854 Apr.12-TERRIBLE ACCIDENT-Red Dog Man Scalded to Death at Little York. Mr. Rodolph Conrad, who is a brother of Secretary Conrad, head of the War Department under President Fillmore, was employed as engineer by the Chalk Bluff Ditch Co. of Red Dog. He was at work repairing a steam engine in a sawmill owned by the Ditch Go. near Little York. The engine was under full pressure when the threads of the relief valve gave way and the relief valve blew out directly on Mr. Conrad, scalding him terribly and filling the small room with scalding steam. Mr. Jones, who was also in the room, was slightly burned but managed to get out in time, although in getting out he hit his head on a beam and was knocked unconscious. Mrs. Jones, who lives nearby, hearing the screams, rushed over and pulled Mr. Conrad from the engine room. He was in terrible pain and lived only about 24 hours. Mr. Jones will be all right in a few days. May 17-WALLOUPA-Messrs Harden & Killiam's claims have been paying $16 to $20 per day to the man. >.
