The Forest City Stage Tine, established by Allison and Lobdell, is
known as the Pioneer Stage Line. Saddle horses are always ready
from there to surrounding towns including Downieville. The
% Nevada agent is W. C.*McRoberts at the Metropolis Hotel.
Duel in Canptonville. Ceorge Farrar end Francis Harris. Harris struck
at Ferrar with an axe inflicting a slight wound. Farrar used a
bowie knife to cut end mutilate Harris in a shocking manner.
Harris died five hours later. Farrar is in custody. Harris had
been married only one week.
Tire at Velloupa. Two buildings belonging to Kanakas burned last Sunday
supposedly set by whites to drive the Kanakas out. Many whites
objected to the burning. The following Saturday a building belonging to Johnson, Rice, end others was burned, probably in retaliation.
David Conklin was rescued. from a mine shaft near Columbia after falling
