OF On May 12 a destructive fire occurred at Yreka, Siskiyou County,
which destroyed property to the amount of $150,000.
The Big Flat North/of Town, adjoining Lola Montez Hill, is now covered with flowers of-every hue.
Lola Montez came near\being killed while riding a horse along a steep
ridge near town. When the horse jumped a deep ditch, landing on a steep
slope on the further side, the horse fell over backwards, throwing Miss
Montez to the ground. Luckily, Bhe fell to one side, so that the horse
did not land on top of her, or injure her in scrambling to its feet. Miss
Lc Montez escaped without injury.
WO4;-2_= The Festival at Storm's Ranch called together quite a consourse of
. people last Sunday. Races, shooting, and games of various description
caused the day to pass off quite pleasantly. Mr. Storms has proved hinself quite a benefactor to the Indians of this neighborhood, and has as
@ consequence, got them under complete control. Of course, quiet and order
prevailed. The beauty and comfort of the Hermitage is enough to entice one
even when no amusement is offered. Mr. Storms has spared no pains or expes
ence and if you are fond of good living ¢ uv fixins, or any of those
_appointments necessary to a pleasant tarry, go to the Hermitage.

Another school meeting-the old M.E.Church was offered by its
Board of Directors to the School District as a school house, since the
Church has become too small for the congregation.

has been built alongside, with all new beds, furniture and other
