On a map of California, Nevada County is shaped somewhat
like a Derringer, the short barreled pocket pistol of western
fame, pointed at the State of
Nevada.
We are told that the shape of
the county is no accident. The
folks who in those days were in
charge of laying out counties
were concerned about what
might happen in the Utah-Indian Territory to the east, In
1863 their fears were realized
when a state was formed and
the name Nevada usurped by
ifs settlers and given to the new
state.
Nevaca County, California lies
in the northeastern part of the
state near the top of the Gold
Rush region known as the North.
