POLITICS Appeal July 21, 1861 A company is organized in Oroville to become a part of Co. Lippitt's regiment. (regiment has been disbanded) Nevada ‘County Breckinridge Democrats to hold a nominating Convention Aug. 3. A military company organized at Columbia Hill, 5.W.Leets, Captain. The town about evenly divided between Union and Secession. (Nev. Dem) Appeal July 27, 1861 Mr. Lampe of Nevada receives letter from his brother in Missouri describing war conditions etc. Appeal Aug 4, 1861 Col. Lippitt has ordered his regiment to report for service tomorrow, They will go into camp at San Pablo and leave by steamer on the 10th. Appeal Aug. 7, 1861 Some members of of Lippitt's regiment object to fighting Indians on the plains. They want to go to the real War. Breckinridge Democrats (pro-Confederate) hold nominatingconvention. of Nevada County. Niles Searls nominated for District Judge. Oth © nominations listed. Bondsmen of J.1T.Crenshaw, former Postmaster of Nev. City, are called upon for $1210 for which amount Crenshaw is in default. He is now in the Confederate Army. Appeal Aug. 15, 1861 Col. Francis Lippitt publishes a message to his regiment telling members to hold themselves ready for active service. Appeal Aug. 18, 1861 Republican candidates stumping-Nevada Co.1T,B,McFarland, J.M.Avery, E.H.Gatlo rd, Joseph Katz & W.H.Sears. Item cgides Nevada County for sending recruits to SF for military service without food, clothing, or money. A punlic subscription is taken up for their benefit. Capt. Green's company from Nevada Co. is presented as full to Gen. Sumner for active service. Appeal Aug. 29, 1861 Maj. Winne of N.S.Juan is authorized by the Governor to recruit a company of light infantry in Nevada Co. Maj. Winne came to Calif. with the Stevenson Regiment.
