Early yes moming Dr. E. Jamieson called to a Chinese wood camp at Barber's
Ranch about 10 mi below GV on Little Wolf creek. Temihle and sickening sight.
Two little Chinese boys, 5 and 7, bumed beyond recognition. Yet still alive no
possihility of recovery. Ah You and wife children keeping a store in camp for
some time. She awakened about 4 a.m. by crackling sound of fire and rushed into
room where boys sleeping. Room and bed ablaze, like true heraine she dashed thru
fiery element and carried boys to safety but badly burned about the face, neck and
feet. Husband also badly bumed about feet in efforts to assist. She tald Dr to
attend to boys and husband first. jTwo little girls asleep rescued no injury. Store
and contents consumed and two dwellings. Origin of fire unknown possible from
burning “oss sticks.
Plans for improving the Empire Hall Property and hid opera house in rear. Hall
be used for dancing purposes, etc. Fine stage. GV long without a theater new
one will supply long want.
SF Report explains Emma's quarrel with Mapleson of Chicago. She to rece $1000
a night in Am but he cut her to $300 in NY because she didn't draw. She content
until reached SF and saw she was an attraction. He declared she was well enuf to
sing but wouldn't and her agent ddclaring she was not well enough and couldn't she

To cut expenses the Co Board of Supervisors, not pay any constable for any
services outside line of co far making arests or any expenses whatever where the
charge is a misdemeanor unless officer ar officers perform same at request or
under direc of DA. That class of cases arrested as vagrant shall not be encouraged
unavoidable shall not be paid.
