Mill lost hand explosion of giant powder cratridge. Night shift, cartridges frozen, Mill placed cartridge on bedplat by side of steam bailer at surface. When blast hole ready for firing he went to get cartridge to attach cap and fuse as took cartr in right hand it exploded tearing off fingers and part of hand, burn about neck and face, destroying one eye. Blown off fingers struck nearby man in face. amputated hand. his fault but sympathies of comm who should extend to a worthy man a liberal hand in this hour of his dread affliction.
