No prepartions for demonstration but about 9 in morning numerous
wagons and buggies loaded with fun seekers started for the Derbec
and Relief Hill for picnics. Derbec ended with dance at Derbec
hotel.
In Noerth Bloomfield at night large bonefire, Brass Band
playing around. Cannon on hill belched thunderous roar and whole
line of Main st ablaze with firelight and resounded with echoes
of pyrotechnics. Two members of Goyne's Band. Cummings' Hall
soon field for dance until 4 in morning. "We ate and we drank,
like hogs at their swill, But for goodness' sake don't say I told
you. At the glorious picnic at Relief Hill But for goodness'
sake don't say I told you.

10 July In evening as the train on Voss's narrow gauge
lumbering railraod in Little York township was making down trip,
the loco, which was pushing the cars, jumped the track between
Mt. Oro and the mill and fell over a 30 foot embankment and was
badly wrecked. Tom Blackair, the engineer, jumped as the engine
left the track and escaped injury. Fred Staples who was aboard
had a narrow escape. He went down with the wrek and slightly
hurt about legs and head. (on 7th July)
Telephone system completed to Towle Bros mill at Omega.
14 July preparations for m8nlight ball for dedication of
Glenbrook Park on 23 July. First class social gathering. No
improper characters will be tolerated. Front of gradn stand
platform for musicians and grandstand to be illuminated by
locomotive headlights. No intoxicating liquors permitted or for
sale on grounds. Sealed bids of ice cream, lemonade and other
refreshments. Special excursion trains round trip 25 cents.
Admission to Park and grandstand $1.50 for genntlemen, ladies
free with gents or not admitted at all. No extra charge for
vehicles and horses.

Most musical sound Truckee heard the clanking of iron rails
unloaded at depot. Cheerful, encouraging sound and fortells good
times and plenty of work. Rails for narrow gauge to be built.
Where to lead and when to start still unknown. Owners are Hobart
& Marlette. 28 tons of rails arrived and 120 tons coming.
First-class rails and road to be sustantially constructed.
Opinions divided whether to run Lake Tahoe or Independence Lake
direction. Truckee will be benefited no matter what direction.
