METHODISTS HELD A LARGE PICNIC YESTEROAY Olympia Park Was the Scene.. of a
Jolly Outing Party of Sixty People. SOCIETIES JOINED FORCES FOR EVENT Boating,
Bathing, Swimming, and Other Amusements Were Indulged In.
The picnic given at Olympia Park yesterday by the Ladies’ Aid and Missionary Societies of the
Methodist church proved to be one of the social events of the season and over sixty were in
attendance. The members of the societies and their friends went out to the park on the 10:30 a.
m. electric car and spent the entire day on the grounds, many returning at a late hour last
evening. Dinner was served at noon, the tables having been made into one long table for this
feature of the picnic. Mrs. Brewer donated a freezer of strawberry ice cream to the picnickers,
for which tlie ladies and their guests were very thankful. j During the afternoon the younger
members of the outing party engaged in swimming and bathing, while others found considerable
enjoyment in boating. A fine program was rendered during the day and the services of Mr.
Brewer were made use of, that gentleman singing several songs for the guests. The day’s
outing was thoroughly enjoyed by all who were fortunate to be present and it is the intention of
the ladies to hold another picnic of a similar nature in the near future. When the picnickers
returned to their homes last night they were loud in their praises of the treatment they received
and during the day they complimented the management of the park on the discontinuance of the
sale of liquor on the grounds. It was the.intention of the societies to hold yesterday’s picnic at
Glenbrook Park but when the decision of Mr. Brewer was made known late Wednesday night
word was sent around to the members and the big event was changed to take place at Olympia
Park.
