Because Howard Brewer, proprle= tors of Olympia Park, had been mis; informed regarding the payment of . the payment of the liquor license tax . he withdrew his petition for a license . at the session of the supervisors yesterday afternoon. Brewer did not uni derstand that he would be required to . pay the tax during the winter months when the park was closed, and he de. tided that it would not pay him to J carry the license the entire year w*hen . lie could only use it during the sumj mer months. Protests Presented. The matter was taken up shortly j aftero'clock. Mr. Brewer, Rev. Sylvester and Elam Biggs were in attendance. Chairman Bennetts asked the protestants to present their side of the case, and Rev. Sylvester told of the evils and shame which would come from selling liquor at the park, Ihe playground of the children and the only amusement resort in the county. Rev. Sylvester also protested against the legality of Mr. Brewer's petition for a license, stating that, acording to his interpretation, the petition must be signed by 30 taxpayers or heads of families residing nearest the proposed place of business. Mr. Biggs spoke along the same lines as those presented by Rev. Sylvester, telling the evils which would arise from the selling of liquor. After hearing the arguments against the issuing of the license Mr. Brewer took the floor and explained why he should be granted a license. He stated that he had acted in conformity with the law. He also stated that outing seekers carried liquor to his i grounds, and in order to make a living he was obliged to take out a lit cense. Petition Is Withdrawn. * After hearing the arguments, the board went into executive session. . Mr. Brewer was called in and was i informed that he would have to pay i for the license every quarter in order . to keep it. and after learning this the park proprietor decided to withdraw his petition, thus saving the supervisors from granting or denying the license. 1912 (336) 2/3rds ads Diversions for Young and Old, a Temperance Resort ; invariably MU reports a grand time enjoyed by everyone at OP Brewer advertises for piano tuning about as much as “Boating, Bathing, Camping, Picnicking, Dancing” at OSermonizing MU 30 April: Brewer returns from SF and elsewhere, only resides at OP bungalow in summer months May 13: first picnic of the season; boat capsized 6 June temperatures in 90s and hundreds flock to park Zz 8 June:During the past week the people have been visiting the park in large numbers Morning Union, 11 June 1912: highschool dance party June 27 Episcopal Sunday school picnic July 8 Methodist Sunday school boys picnic, swimming, boating mid July: Sunday school of Colfax will hold their annual picnic and a large number of the residents of the junction town will attend.
