Dec 15, 1853—He and Witt offered to sell the American House at Boston Ravine, near the bridge. June 21, 1854—Signed complimentary card for Robinson family at Grass Valley. EDWARD L. CRAIG( -_) —Came to Nevada County, Calif. 1861—Read law with John R. McConnell at Nevada City. April 3, 1861— Admitted to practice law in district court at Nevada City. Dec 11, 1861— Accounts due the failing Nevada Journal were placed in his hands by the district court for collection. CRAIGAN— see also CREAGAN and CREGAN JAMES CRAIGAN (1828_ ) 1828 —Born in Ireland. 1844— Went to sea for four years. 1848— Migrated to New York City. Fall 1849—Came to Calif. and mined on the American River. Spring 1850—Moved to Nevada County and mined. 1880—Lived at Beckville, four miles west of Nevada City on 160 acres. Post office at Grass Valley. SAMUEL M.CRALL( -_ ) —Came to Calif. 1871—Miner at No. San Juan, Nevada County. 1876—Member American Mining Co., No. San Juan. Capt. CRAMM( -_ ) (see also JOHN A. CRUM) —Came to Nevada County, Calif. June 1, 1853—His patented and improved machinery was being used to refit and remodel the Empire Mill at Grass Valley for quartz mining. GEORGE N. CRANDALL ( -_ ) —Came to Nevada County, Calif. May 1853—Jr. Warden of Madison Lodge 23 F&AM at Grass Valley. June 24, 1853—One of the managers for the Grand Masonic Ball at Alta Saloon, Grass Valley. Dec 22, 1853—Chosen Sr. Warden of Madison Lodge 23. Jan 7, 1854—He and others invited A. A. Sargent to a complimentary supper in Grass Valley. Jan 19, 1854—Supt. of Union Water Works at Grass Valley. March 3, 1854—Mr. Crandall told the Journal about new diggings at Buena Vista Ranch. Sept 13, 1855—Lost $4,000 in Grass Valley fire. Dec 1858— Member of grand jury. June 3, 1907— Attended old pioneers reunion at Grass Valley. HENRY S.CRANDALL (— -__ ) (WHIG) —Came to Nevada County, Calif. 1853—Was mining at Nevada City. May 2, 1853—One of six managers of the May Day party at the United States Hotel, Nevada City; James Fitz James was another. June 1853—He and James Fitz James were building a house on Manzanita Hill.
June 24, 1853—Delegate to Whig county convention. July 1, 1853—Delegate to the Whig state convention. Summer 1853—Returned to New York. Sept 1853—Nevada Journal editorially admired Bourbon Lodge, the house Crandall and Fitz James had built. Oct 20, 1853—Married Mary E. (or C.) Mills at Easton, New York. July 28, 1854—Bourbon Lodge was for sale. Dr. JOHN RIGGS CRANDALL (1809AMER, REP) 1809—Born in Massachusetts. —Moved to Peoria, Illinois, as a young man. 1849—Crossed plains to Calif. with the Peoria Pioneers Co. Fall 1850—Recording Steward at Methodist Episcopal Church at Nevada City. April 14, 1851—Elected Alderman of Nevada City. May 6, 1851—Became Master of Lafayette Lodge No. 29, F&AM, Nevada City; name of lodge was changed to Nevada No. 13 at this time. May 26, 1851—Voting commissioner at first Nevada County election. June 1851—Resigned as City Alderman. 1851—Located water rights on Bear River below the junction of Greenhorn Creek. Nov 7, 1851—Charter member of Eureka Lodge 16 F&AM, at Auburn. Jan 3, 1852—Trustee of the Bear River and Auburn Water and Mining Co. (which built Bear River ditch from Greenhorn Creek junction to area north of Auburn). Announced meeting at Empire Hotel, Ophir, Placer County. May 11, 1852—Crandall, Joseph Bogy and James Whartenby drafted resolutions for a miners meeting at Nevada City to create a committee of vigilance to punish thieves. May 13, 1852—Crandall, W. P. Walker, P. B. Fagan, E. S. Peck and Isaac Nixon were sued by David Phelps. May 15, 1852—Crandall, W. P. Walker, Dr. P. B. Fagan, and Henry Miller warned persons not to take promissory notes given by them to Isaac Nixon in May and June 1851. 1852—Asst. supt. of first Sunday School in Placer County. Sept 6, 1854—Elected Placer County treasurer (WHIG). May 1855— Moved to Auburn. May 6, 1857—Road convention at Yankee Jims appointed him to Committee of Management for wagon road through Placer County. Sept 1, 1857—Defeated for state treasurer (AMER).
