Lives of Nevada County Pioneers (version 2020) 1878 —Lived at 938 Mission Street, San Francisco. 1878—Went to Globe, Arizona, where he owned interest in Champion Mill. 1879/1880—Opened a merchandise store north of Pinal Creek crossing at Globe, Arizona. 1880—Rose & Duryea mining company was working two claims in vicinity of Democrat Hill in Nevada County. Dec 11, 1903—Died at age 76. Unmarried. Buried in Globe Cemetery, Gila County, Arizona. Survived by sister, Mrs. Ann A. Waldron of Rutherford, New Jersey; brother Edward of Roslyn, New York, and a niece in California. Dr. DANIEL DUSTIN (___-1892) (AMER, REP) —Came to French Corral, Calif., probably from Illinois. Sept 6, 1854—Elected justice of the peace for Bridgeport twp. Lived at French Corral, Nevada County. Sept 5, 1855—Elected to state assembly (AMER). May 1, 1856—Sacramento Union reported he was a delegate to Republican convention in Sacramento. He denied being connected with or sympathizing with the Republican movement in Calif. July 4, 1857— Gave patriotic speech at Birchville celebration. Aug 12, 1857— Attended Republican county convention at Nevada City. ca 1858 —Left Calif. Dec 10, 1858 —Was a merchant at Sycamore, Illinois. Jan 12, 1860—Editor of the True Republican newspaper at Sycamore, De Kalb Co., Illinois. Jan 1864—Was a colonel with 106th Illinois regiment in Civil War; served with Grant at Chatanooga. Edward F. Burton said Dustin had taken part in all the Peninsula battles as a captain, and had been recently transferred to an army of the Cumberland. March 30, 1892—Died in Missouri. WILLIAM DUSUZEAU( -_ ) —Came to Calif. Summer 1849—Chemist, minerologist, assayer and smelter with office on Sacramento St., San Francisco. Oct 11, 1851—Moved assaying office from San Francisco to Nevada City, Nevada County. Located on Broad Street opposite Virginia House. Had reduced his price from $20 to $15 per assay. Aug 14, 1852—Had leased the Ural mill on Deer Creek. Planned to introduce some improvements of his own invention. May 13, 1853—Still at Nevada City, at same location. WILLIAM DYER( -_ ) —Came to Calif. Sept 14, 1855—Daguerrean artist in rooms of George W. Kilbourn, 19 Commercial St. Nevada City. 32
