1850s— Came to Calif.
June 3, 1907 —Attended old pioneers reunion at Grass Valley,
Nevada County.
JAMES D. EARLY (1830)
1830—Born in Salem, Indiana.
1850—Came to Gold Flat, Calif., and mined.
1855— Moved to Grass Valley, Nevada County, and mined.
Sept 18, 1861—Married Mary Kenan (Keenan) (b. in Ann
Arbor, Michigan) at Grass Valley.
1880—Lived with wife, one son and one daughter on Church
Street in Grass Valley. Supt. of Steep Hollow gold mine
near Lowell Hill.

—Came to Calif.
Dec 24, 1851—Charter member of the Grass Valley, Nevada
County, Masonic Lodge.
July 17, 1852—Surgical dentist at Grass Valley.
SAMUEL P. EASLY (c1829-1865)
ca 1829—Born.
—Came to Calif.
Feb 22, 1856—Had been convicted of gambling at Nevada
City, Nevada County.
Jan 26, 1858—Charter member Nevada Rifle Co.
April 10, 1858 —Took part in Nevada Rifle Co. outing.
May 23, 1858—Lost $2,000 when his buildings burned in
Nevada City fire.
1860—Taxpayer in Nevada township.
Oct 26, 1862—Married Ellen Nelly Bice at Grass Valley.
April 19, 1864—Daughter Virginia Lee born at Grass Valley.
March 5, 1865—Died at San Francisco after operation on a
cancerous tumor.
Mr. C. D. EASTIN (1833_ )
1833—Born in Kentucky and moved with parents to near
Clarksville, Missouri, while an infant.
—Quit school and became a farmer.
1853—Crossed plains to Calif. and mined at town of Washington, Nevada County, on the South Yuba River.
1869—Mined in Placer County.
1871—Logged at Dutch Flat, Placer County.
1878—Partner in a general store at Lowell Hill, Nevada
County.
Sept 1878— Appointed postmaster at Lowell Hill.
1880 —Lived at Lowell Hill. Eastin & Co. were wholesale dealers in provisions, cigars, tobacco and patent medicines.
1885— Bought M. Bohannar’s store at Graniteville.
1894—Bought residence for his family at Nevada City, and
continued to operate the store at Graniteville.
BART. EASTING (__—Came to Calif.
March 21, 1856—Charter officer in Wemeh Lodge 1, Red
Men, at Red Dog, Nevada County.
Aug 22, 1856—Chosen delegate to American county conv.
Aug 22, 1858—Married Mary Brown at Red Dog.
April 22, 1859—Began a stage line between Nevada City and
Little York via Hunt’s Hill and Red Dog, connecting with
Dutch Flat, Iowa Hill, Forest Hill and Yankee Jim’s by saddle trains.
Aug 22, 1861—Director of Protective Ladder Co. at Red
Dog.
ca Nov 15, 1862—Daughter born at Red Dog.
June 13, 1863— Dissolved partnership with W. G. King at Red
Dog.

Sept 4, 1861—Elected constable for Washington township in
Nevada County.
IRA ALLIS EATON (1823-1875) (PEOPLE’S, DEM)
1823—Born in New York.
Fall 1849—Came to San Francisco, Calif. from Boston.
Jan 1850—Went to Marysville, where he had a business.
April 1, 1864—He and Isaac Williamson leased the new
Union Hotel at Nevada City, Nevada County.
1863—Came to Nevada City and became one of the proprietors of the Union Hotel.
April 24, 1864— Union Hotel advertised that it had 100 “light
and airy rooms, not a dark one in the house.”
Nov 14, 1864—On grand jury.
July 1, 1865—Called to order the People’s Union convention
at Nevada City.

April 18, 1868 —Delegate to Democratic county convention.
April 4, 1870—Part owner of combined National and Gazette
newspaers, to be known as National Gazette, with Amos
Morse Jr., editor and David B. Frink, busines manager
Jan 1872—Sold half interest in Union Hotel to Elijah Tompkins.
May 22, 1874—Was talking of selling out his hotel and going
to San Francisco.
June 10, 1874— Union Hotel had been shut down because of
financial problems.
July 8, 1874— He and Charles Moore had reopened the Union
Hotel.
1875 — Wife joined Evangeline Chapter 9, Eastern Star.
Jan 10, 1875—Died at Nevada City, age 51. Prop. of Union
Hotel. He had been ill for several months. Member of Society of California Pioneers. Survived by his wife.
