1858 — Prop. of sawmill at North San Juan, Nevada County.
Feb 1858—After learning that one of his employees, Mrs.
Eldred Northup, was having an affair with stage driver
William Reynolds, he told her husband, who shot and
killed Reynolds.

township in Nevada County.

Sept 1851—He and Allison were proprietors of the Buckeye
Lunch and Bakery on Main St. opposite the Empire Saloon.
Sept 3, 1851—Elected constable for Nevada township, Nevada County.
Nov 27, 1853—He and John A. Smith of Anthony House offered $2,000 reward for capture of a robber.
Nov 4, 1856—Elected to county board of supervisors from
district 2.
Sept 8, 1860— Member Breckinridge Democratic county committee.
April 19, 1869—Left Nevada County on a business trip to
Illinois. Expected to return in 25 days.
May 2, 1870—Elected town trustee at Colusa, Calif.
Aug 4, 1876—William Westerfield was prop. of Anthony
House, which French still owned, when it burned in midafternoon. It was reported that French had owned it since
1849 (100 years later, in 1949, Edmund Kinyon said his research showed the original owner was Mr. Anthony, and
French had acquired it later).

May 8, 1852—Margaret Hurst, proprietor of the Star Bakery
on Broad St., Nevada City, Nevada County, offered to buy
notes against Henry Freudenthal.
July 31, 1852—Married to Miss Louisa Zahn at Nevada City
by Rev. Adam Bland.
Sept 24, 1852—Was partner of John Hurst (Margaret’s husband) when Hurst & Co. sued Samuel Edmunds in 10th
district court.
March 15, 1853— Freudenthal and Hurst ended partnership
as proprietors of the Star Bakeries of Nevada and French
Corral.
DESIRE FRICOT (1868-1940)
April 4 or 8, 1868—Born in Paris, France, son of Jules Fricot
and Elizabeth Jane Jenkins.
— Educated in France
—Came to San Francisco and studied engineering and
chemistry.
1893—Partner of André Chavanne at Grass Valley in the
Idaho Maryland mine until Chavanne’s death.
Nov 10, 1898—Married Miss Lillian Eichelroth in San Andreas—or in his mother’s house at San Francisco.
JULES “EMPEROR” FRICOT (1817-1889)
1817—Born in France.
1851—Came to Calif. with Chavanne brothers, André and
Louis on the 330-ton sailing vessel Medicis.
1851—Mined at Rich Bar on the Yuba River.
—He and Chavanne brothers erected a stamp mill, known
as the French Mill, at Boston Ravine, in Grass Valley.
—Chavanne brothers sold their interest to Fricot.
1857—Fricot, Rupert and Pralus bought the Eureka mine at
Grass Valley, Nevada County, from Bertrand L. Lamarque.
Aug 28, 1858—Naturalized at Nevada City.
Sept 24, 1864—Sold an extension of his mine to A. E. Head
and Robert F. Morrow for $20,000.
Oct 12, 1864—Taxable income for 1863 was $1,549.
June 1865—Sold his shares in Eureka mine and the French
Mill for $400,000.
Dec 11, 1865—Married Elizabeth Jane Jenkins (b. 1843 in
Mineral Pt., Wisconsin; daughter of John and Mary Ann
Jenkins of Grass Valley.)
April 1868—Son Desiré born in Paris, France.
May 4, 1870—Daughter Marie born in Paris, France.
1870—Bought property at Fifth and Market, San Francisco,
for $30,000.
June 15, 1874— Arrived in Grass Valley with his family. They
were stopping at ranch of his wife’s father, John Jenkins,
on Rattlesnake Ravine.
1889 —Died in Paris.
(Fricot was known as “The Emperor” because of his supposed resemblance to Napoleon. In 1941 his San Francisco
property was sold by heirs of son Desiré to Louis R. Lurie for
$1,875,000.)

Oct 31, 1854—Sold his interest to J. C. Abbott & Co.
DAVID BELDEN FRINK (1831-1874) (REP)
Nov 14, 1831—Born in Rochester, New York. Son of Harvey
Frink and Lucinda Smith.
1840—Moved with grandparents to Penfield, Calhoun Co.,
Michigan.
—Married Lucy G. Fairchild (b. c1840), daughter of W. S.
Fairchild of Vermontville, Michigan.
—Worked for Marshall Statesman newspaper in Michigan.
—Daughter Carrie born (possibly other children, too).
1861—Brought wife to Calif. because of her poor health.
Sept 18, 1861—Had opened a military recruiting office in
Grass Valley, Nevada County.
Oct 2, 1861—Elected Lieutenant of Grass Valley Volunteer
Co., which became part of the 5th Infantry Regiment.
Feb 20, 1862—He, Joseph B. Thompson, E. B. Vanderhoef,
