Lives of Nevada County Pioneers (version 2021) PETER GRAHAM (1833_) 1833—Born in Ireland. 1836—Moved to England with parents. 1851—Migrated to Massachusetts and engaged in cotton manufacturing. 1855— Married Ellen Callagahn (b. in Massachusetts). 1855—Came to Calif. via Isthmus of Panama, and settled in Sweetland, Nevada County, and mined. 1880—Lived with wife, 2 sons and 4 daughters at Sweetland. Owned town lots worth $1,000 and was engaged in saloon business and mining. FREDERICK GRAMBBS (GRAMBIS)( -_ ) 1846—Came to Calif. on the Thomas Perkins with Col. Stevenson’s New York Regiment with Co. G, and was transferred to the band with five other Germans. Dec 23, 1847—Became Chief Musician of the regimental band. Oct 26, 1848 —Discharged from the service. Oct 26, 1853— Accompanied Mrs. Waller on piano at Frisbie’s Concert Hall, Nevada City, Nevada County. June 6, 1854—Played piano at Frisbie’s promenade concert series. July 4, 1854—Furnished a band of music for holiday celebration at Hughes’ Union Race Track. April 4, 1855—Raffled his piano at $5 per ticket; sold 40 tickets and the winner was B. L. Lamarque of Grass Valley. Jan 1, 1856—Musician, boarding at Star Bakery, 77 Broad St., Nevada City. March 31, 1869—Mrs. Grambbs was going to occupy the New York House at Nevada City. SAMUEL GRANGER (_1850s —Came to Calif. Dec 14, 1872—Member of newly organized Grass Valley Stock Board. May 1873—Elected Town Trustee at Grass Valley. July 1873— Attended Democratic Caucus at Grass Valley. Oct 1875— New awnings to be installed on north side of Main Street from Loutzenheizer;s to Granger & Watt's store. June 3, 1907 —Attended old pioneers reunion at Grass Valley, Nevada County. ) (DEM) VICTOR GRANHOLM (1842-1917) Nov 7, 1842 —Born in Finland. 1873—Naturalized in Nevada County. Dec 12, 1874—Married Jane “Jennie” Robinson Shackleton (b. May 17, 1854, at Grass Valley, daughter of John and Bridget Robinson, and step-daughter of Roger Shackleton). Jan 2, 1875—Elected officer in 1.0.O.F. at Grass Valley, along with Edmund W. Roberts. March 1875—Postoffice was holding a letter for Mrs. Jane Granholm. June 30, 1875—Postoffice was holding a letter for Victor Granholm. Sept 15, 1875—Daughter Lillian “Lily” born at Grass Valley. July 3, 1877—Son John born at Grass Valley. Feb 10, 1880 —Son William born at Grass Valley. Oct 7, 1882—Son Edward born at Grass Valley.
May 6, 1884— Daughter Sophia stillborn in Grass Valley.. June 8, 1885—Son Victor Jr. born in Grass Valley. —Son Leon born at Grass Valley. March 7, 1889—Son Victor died at Grass Valley. 16 March 18, 1889—Son Leon died at Grass Valley. March 1, 1890—Son Elmer born at Grass Valley. Fall 1892—Daughter Lily entered 2-year high school program at Columbia School in Grass Valley. June 1893—Bought the former Edmund W. Roberts ranch north of Hills Flat and adjacent to Hughes Road and the Grass Valley-Nevada City highway. He was employed by the nearby Idaho Maryland mine as a hoist engineer. June 14, 1894—Daughter Lily graduated from high school with honors. Jan 27, 1896— Daughter Lily married Stephen Davey. 1917—Died at Grass Valley. April 5, 1919— Widow died at the North Star cottage, where she was living with Lily’s married daughter, Mrs. Melville John Evans. Lily’s daughter Verna Davey was living in Oakland and Lily’s son, Marion Stephen Davey was at Marysville. WILLIAM GRANT( -_ ) 1850s —Came to Calif. June 3, 1907 —Attended old pioneers reunion at Grass Valley, Nevada County. Mr. J.GRAUMAN( -_ ) —Came to Calif. Sept 1852—Member of committee (with Leopold Heibronn, and A. Rosenheim) to find hall for celebration of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur at Nevada City, Nevada County. Jan 10, 1853—He and C. Josephson (agents for J. J. Grauman and H & M Josephson) took possession of Kentucky Store on Main St., Nevada City, from Leopold Heilbronn & Co. Jan 19, 1854—He and Josephson offered to sell Kentucky Store. June 4, 1854—Sold his interest to Leo Ash. 1854—Traveled to Europe and the Atlantic States. July 1855—Returned to Nevada City. Aug 1, 1855—Bought out Ash and resumed partnership with Josephson at 60 Broad St., corner of Pine. Dec 1855—He and Mr. Carkin were sued by D & B Lachman at Nevada City. Mrs. E.G. GRAY( -_ ) 1857 or earlier— Came to Nevada City, Calif. Oct 2, 1907—Attended pioneer women reception at Nevada City. GEORGE A. GRAY( -_ ) —Came to Calif. Nov 2, 1852—Defeated for constable for Nevada township, Nevada County. 1859—Moved to Washoe mining district. Sept 21, 1861— Visited Nevada City. Oct 1, 1861—On coroner’s jury at Grass Valley.
