Jan 1875— Elected Sacherm of Weimar Tribe No. — I.O.R.M. Jan 1854 —Daughter Seraphina born. at Grass Valley. May 19, 1857—Daughter born at Nevada City, Nevada County, California. Aug 19, 1857—He and wife were props. of What Cheer House, opposite National Exchange Hotel, Nevada City. Sept 1, 1858—Wife was prop. of New York Hotel, Broad Street, rebuilt after 1858 fire. Dec 24, 1858— Wife hosted ball at New York Hotel. Aug 19, 1859—Hosted party at the New York Hotel. Aug 27, 1859—James F. Price arrested on charge that he tried to rape Adams’ 6-year-old daughter. July 27, 1860 —Daughter Seraphina died at Nevada City. Sept 21, 1860— Daughter born at Nevada City. March 18, 1861—He and wife hosted dinner at New York Hotel for 100 men and 80 ladies who had attended a Ball at Temperance Hall. Nov 17, 1863—Wife opened restaurant on site after Nevada City fire destroyed New York Hotel. Dec 21, 1863—New York Hotel rebuilt and open for business with lodging for 40. May 6, 1864—Offered to sell New York Hotel and lot. Oct 1864— Owned New York House (worth $1,500) on north side of Broad St.; also small house and lot worth $500 west of and next to hotel, and another worth $500 east of and next to hotel. Oct 31, 1864— Work began on 24x48 ft. addition to New York Hotel. March 3, 1865—Held a grand ball at New York Hotel. March 10, 1865—Wife’s 84-year-old father, John Flynn, died at San Francisco. Nov 12 or 13, 1867—Son born at Nevada City. ca 1868-69— Wife Honora died at Nevada City. March 12, 1869—Wife’s estate admitted to probate. May 14, 1870—A family in Nevada City wants to adopt one of his chilfren which the county is supporting because Adams is absent and the mother dead. No permanent adoption papers can be taken without his approval. JOHN ADAMS (1828_) 1828 —Born in Glasgow, Scotland. —Parents brought him to Middletown, Conn., when he was 4 months old. 1850—Learned machinist trade and moved to Illinois. 1855—Went to work for Chicago & Northwestern railroad running an express train betwen Chicago and Milwaukee. Was foreman of the round house. June 15, 1860— Married Ellen J. Spoor (b. New York). 1872—Came to Calif. and worked for Central Pacific railroad. 1873 — Foreman of round house at Truckee, Nevada County. 1880—Lived at Truckee with wife and son (three sons and three daughters had died prior to 1880). SAMUEL ADAMS (1859__) Dec 1859—Born in Calif. 1886—Married Salma (b. Sept 1868 in Calif.). June 1887—Son Samuel Jr. born in Calif. Sept 1888— Daughter Salma B. born in Calif. Oct. 1893—Son Carl born in Calif.
1900—Amalgamator, living with wife, 2 sons and daughter at Grass Valley. April 1875—Son of James Pollard was bitten by a rattlesnake near Adams’ farm, which was a mile west of Grass Valley. May 1875—Deputy clerk in Nevada County Recorder's office at Nevada City. Mr. L. BIRCH ADSIT( -_ ) Sept 1849— Arrived in Calif. 1852—He and Pauley leased a store at Johnson’s diggings (named for David Johnson), Nevada County. 1853—Bought Pauley’s interest. Camp became known as “Birchville” because of his middle name. Jan 8, 1854—Performed marriage at Mississippi Valley (Sweetland), Nevada County. (May have been elected or appointed justice of the peace for Bridgeport twp.) Dec 8, 1856—Bought $1,600 worth of gold dust at $18.25 per ounce in Birchville. July 4, 1857—Read Declaration of Independence at Birchville celebration. 1859—Sold his business to Mr. G. B. Newell. AH SING (1831-1861) 1831—Born in China. ca 1853—Came to Nevada City, Nevada County, Calif. —Became fluent in English. Probably owned a brothel and/or opium den at top of Broad St. Often acted as a court interpreter. Oct 1860—Taxpayer in Grass Valley township. Sept 30, 1861 —Shot to death by Henry Searls, a butcher born in England and naturalized at Nevada City. DAVID AHEARN( -_ ) 1850s— Came to Calif. June 3, 1907— Attended old pioneers reunion at Grass Valley, Nevada County. WILLIAM G. ALBAN (18231823— Born in Mansfield, Ohio. —Came to Calif. March 12, 1851 —Partner of Mr. Pebble; lost $4,000 in Nevada City, Nevada County, fire. Summer 1851—Bought half-interest in Nevada Journal from Warren Ewer; Henry DeCourcey bought other half and was the editor. Sept 13, 1851— Aaron Sargent bought DeCourcey’s interest in Journal and became the new editor. Nov 16, 1851 —Married Martha Ann Gregory (b. 1829, daughter of U. S. Gregory) at Nevada City. March 28, 1852—He and George Kilbourn reopened Gregory House after it had burned on February 24. June 23, 1852—Chosen delegate to Democratic county conv. July 10, 1852—Sold his interest in Journal to E. R. Budd. Aug 4 1852—On committee to arrange memorial rites for Henry Clay. Oct 1852—Bought City Drug Store from Dr. John Lark and moved it to Hodge’s building next door, nearly opposite Phelps Hotel on Main St. May 27, 1853— Formed partnership with Dr. John Lark; business moved back into Dr. Lark’s building. July 22, 1853— Chairman of Democratic county committee. ) (DEM)
