Oct 1864—Owned blacksmith shop and lot worth $1,800 on
west side of Coyote St.; also house and lot opposite shop
worth $200.
Sept 28, 1865—Son born at Nevada City.
June 1867—He and Arthur Barton had a blacksmith shop on
Coyote St., Nevada City.
Sept 1, 1867—Married Clara Harrigan at Grass Valley.
Dec 26, 1869—Son born at Nevada City.
1873 — Wife Clara was a charter member of Evangeline Chapter 9, Order of Eastern Star. Family lived at corner of Coyote and Church sts., next to his blacksmith shop.
Feb 1883 —Prop. of The Boss Blacksmith Shop, on the Plaza.
AARON BARUH (1823-1907) (DEM)
Oct 18, 1823—Born in Landau, Bavaria, brother of Herman
Moses Baruh.
1850—Came to New Orleans, Louisiana.
1852—Came to Nevada City, Nevada County, Calif., and
worked for brother Moses in clothing store on Main St. or
Commercial sts.
July 19, 1856—Lost $2000 when Moses’ dwelling on Nevada
St. was destroyed in city fire.
Fall 1856—Resumed business with brother.
Jan 26, 1858—Charter member of Nevada Rifle Co.
May 23, 1858—Lost $1000 when dwelling in which he was
living burned in city fire.
1860—Fruit dealer at Nevada City, living with M. Bloom, a
40-year-old female, and two young boys, M. and J. Bloom,
all from Prussia. Baruh had personal property worth
$300.
Oct 1860—Taxpayer in Nevada twp.
Nov 3, 1860—Declared insolvent.
Oct 20 or 23, 1861 — Married Rosalie Theresa Wolf (b. 1837 or
38 in Bavaria).
Feb 27, 1862—Daughter Clara born in Nevada City.
Nov 16, 1862—Prop. of grocery store at 17 Commercial St.
April 19, 1863—Had moved store to brick building opposite
the St. Louis Hotel.
June 28, 1863—Trustee of B’nai Brith, Garizim Lodge 43 in
Grass Valley.
Nov 1863—Prop. grocery store at 27 Commercial St., opposite St. Louis House.
Nov 26, 1863—Son Moses born at Nevada City.
Oct 1864— Owned groceries and provisions worth $500. Had
taxable income of $150 for 1863.
Dec 13, 1864—Bought A. Rosenthal’s toy and candy store on
Pine St. Continued to operate grocery on Commercial St.
1866—Son Marcus M. born.
1866—Bought house at 516 Main St. (built in 1852) from
Bridgett McCloskey.
June 1867—Prop. of saloon on corner of Commerical and
Union sts.
Feb 8, 1868 —Son Joseph Y. born at Nevada City.
1869—Son David born.
1870 —Saloon keeper living at Nevada City with wife, daughter and 4 sons.
May 5, 1872—Daughter Jennie born.

April 15, 1877—Son David died at Nevada City.
April 1875—Member of Democratic County Central Committee from Nevada Township.

Sept 11, 1907—Died in Los Angeles; buried in San Francisco.

Jennie Zellerbach and Mrs. Julius Gabriel of San Francisco,
son Joseph Y. of Los Angeles, and daughter Clara Quigly
of Nevada City.

May 2, 1852—I. Williamson auctioned off Baruh’s Commercial St. property.
Aug 30, 1852—George Dornin opened a clothing store in the
old Baruh store on Commercial St.
1853—Partner of Louis Davidson.
Sept 24, 1853— Dissolved partnership with Davidson.
Sept 30, 1853— Attended Nevada City Pacific Railroad conv.
Sept 29, 1854—Charter treasurer of Hebrew Society.
April 5, 1855—ReelectedTreasurer of Hebrew Society.
Aug 6, 1855—On committee to arrange Synagogue for holidays.
Oct iL 1855—Naturalized at Nevada City.
Jan 1856 —Had a clothing store at 25 Main St.
April 23, 1856—Reelected Treasurer of Hebrew Society.
July 19, 1856—His dwelling on Nevada St. was destroyed in
city fire.

May 10, 1857—Reelected Treasurer of Hebrew Society.
Dec 14, 1857—Hebrew Society celebrated 5th anniversary
with party at H. Baruh home.
April 1858—Vice president of Hebrew Society.
Jan 1, 1859—Constable was to sell Baruh’s house and lot
on old road from Nevada City to Washington to satisfy a
judgment of $80 against Baruh and A. Graber in favor of
James McLean.
—Moved to Petaluma.

1873—Came to Calif. and settled in Santa Barbara.
1877—Moved to San Francisco and engaged in upholstery
and furniture business.
April 1878 — Employed in furnture business at Sacramento.
Jan 1879— Moved to Nevada City, Nevada County, and was
partner of George B. Brand in stationery, books and magazine business.
Aug 1879— Manager of Mrs. Johnson’s furniture store in connection with his other business.

—Came to Calif.
June 5, 1975—Married to Mrs. Susan Bennett by Rev. W.
McPheeters at Grass Valley.
Mr. D. F. BATCHELDER( -_ )
—Came to Calif.
April 1858—His indictment in for keeping a keno table in
Nevada County was dismissed for informality; released on
$500 bail to await action by next grand jury.
July 4, 1860—He and Duane gave a grand ball at Hamilton
Hall in Grass Valley.
