Lives of Nevada County Pioneers (version 2020) PETER ISMERT (1824-1876) Feb 1824—Born in France. —Came to Calif. —Owned mine and land in the Glenbrook basin, midway between Grass Valley and Nevada City, Nevada County. —Married. 1860—Taxpayer in Nevada township. May 16, 1875—The German Social Club’s Annual Pecnic at Ismert’s Grove in Glenbrook Basin was postponed until the 21st when it was rained outl . Jan 12, 1876—Accidentlally shot and killed by Andrew F. Fryer in a dispute over trespass during repairs after the collapse of Ismert’s mine beneath the Glenbrook racetrack owned by Fryer's brother, Robert M. Fryer. Left a wife. AUGUSTIN ISOARD (c1828-1900) (DEM, UNION) ca 1828—Born in France. Jan 21, 1850— Migrated to San Francisco, Calif.. March 24, 1850—Came to Caldwell’s upper store. Sept 1850—Claim of Isoard and other Frenchmen was jumped. Hired Ellis and Searls, who won a lawsuit for them against claim jumpers. 1852—Opened a hotel at Nevada City, Nevada County. 1854— Opened a saloon on Mill Street, Grass Valley. March 2, 1854— Won lawsuit against Nathan Hawk over disputed claim in Manzanita mining district. Sept 13, 1855—Saloon burned in Grass Valley fire. 1855— Moved to Nevada City and mined for two years. ca 1857— Opened a wine and liquor store. May 23, 1858—Lost $3,000 when his 2 buildings burned in Nevada City fire. July 17, 1858—Married Louisa C. Moosback (b. 1843 in Neufchatel, Switzerland) at Hotel de Paris in Grass Valley. ca 1859—Son Clarence born at Nevada City. Aug 1860—Merchant at Nevada City with $2,000 real estate and $2,000 personal property. Taxpayer in Nevada twp. ca 1861—Son George born at Nevada City. Oct 1861—Had a wine and liquor store on Broad Street, two doors above Wall & Newmar’s store. July 22, 1862—Signed the Union petition. Oct 12, 1862 —Had installed a wine press at his store and was making wine. June 27, 1863—Had a large supply of wine which he had manufactured in 1862. Aug 12, 1863—Son Julius born at Nevada City. Oct 1863—Owned house and lot worth $1,000 on south side of Broad Street, next to house of Mr. Stumpf; also had wines and liquors worth $800. Nov 8, 1863—His building on Broad St. was destroyed in Nevada City fire. Nov 20, 1863—Reopened his liquor business from his fireproof cellar; intended to erect a brick building on the lot when Spring arrived. Dec 23, 1865—Son Alphonse born at Nevada City. June 1867—Owned a liquor store at 61 Broad Street. June 29, 1867—Naturalized at Nevada City. 1868 —Son Louis born at Nevada City. Summer 1868— He and Ed Muller were raising silkworms. Oct 29, 1868 —Had opened a liquor store just below Findley’s bank on Main Street in Grass Valley. 1869—Lived on West Broad Street, between Rolfe and Cassin families. 1870—Lived with wife and five sons at Nevada City; $6,000 real estate, $3,000 personal property. 1872—Son Max H. was born at Nevada City. Feb 28, 1875—Daughter born at Nevada City. —Daughter born at Nevada City. 1880—Proprietor of saloon on Broad Street; lived in Nevada City with wife, 6 sons and 2 daughters. 1895—Lived on south side of West Broad Street. ca 1900—Died at Nevada City. Dec 22, 1900 —Estate hearing, Mrs. S. C. Gifford, administratrix. MAX H. ISOARD (1872_ ) 1872—Born at Nevada City, Nevada County, son of Augustin Isoard and Louisa C. Moosback. 1895— Worked for his father in the wholesale liquor business on Broad St. Sec’y for the West Harmony Mining Co., and manager of the Confidence mine. Oct 14, 1899—Charter member Nevada City Elks Lodge. Mr. T.T.ISRAEL( ) —Came to Calif. May 25, 1855—Brickmaker and partner of C. H. Bain and J. R. Scranton, contractors and builders, at Nevada City, Nevada County. Aug 23, 1856—He and Bain received contract to rebuild the Nevada County court house for $18,558. Dr. G. IVANCOVITCH, M.D. (1848_) 1848 —Born in Austria. —Attended college at Ragusa. 1866—Studied medicine in London, England. 1870—Migrated to Calif. and practiced medicine in Lake County. 1876—Married Nellie R. Jones (b. in Illinois). 1877— Attended medical school in San Francisco. 1878—Received his medical degree and moved to Grass Valley, Nevada County. 1880—Lived with wife, son and daughter at Grass Valley. Practiced medicine in the Harris building on Mill Street.
