Lives of Nevada County Pioneers (version 20120) April 14, 1854—Sold interest in City Drug Store to Dr. Lark and bought Broad St. Drug from Dr. Clark. May 1, 1854—Elected Nevada City trustee after first declining to run. Became president of the board. June 30, 1854—Formed partnership with Dr. J. S. Skinner of San Francisco. Aug 11, 1854—Sec’y pro tem of Nevada Lodge 13 F&AM. Oct 1854— Court of Sessions appointed him and Dr. Harvey Hunt to take charge of the new county hospital. May 11, 1855—Board of supervisors reappointed him and Hunt to manage county hospital. July 21, 1855—Attended Democratic primary meeting at Nevada City. Aug 17, 1855—Had opened a branch drug store in Kilbourn’s building on Commercial St. Oct 1, 1855—He and Dr. Hunt received $434 from county for services from August 22 to October 1, 1855. Nov 16, 1855—Sold his Commercial St. drugstore to Dr. J. F. Rudolph. Dec 1855— House at 70 Main St.; offices at 53 Broad St. and 19 Pine. —VG of Oustomah Lodge IOOF. June 24, 1856—Sold Broad St. Drug store to Harvey H. Wickes & Co. July 19, 1856—Broad St. Drug store unscathed by city fire, but Alban lost $4,500 in other buildings. Aug 8, 1856—Thanked Hamlin, M. L. Marsh, David Belden, Will Rabbitts, Cleveland and J. Tacker for saving his drugstore from fire. Member of City’s fire relief committee. Oct 31, 1856—W.M. of Nevada Lodge 13. April 8, 1857—Had partnered with Thomas & M’Laren of Sacramento in wholesale and retail drug trade. Oct 16, 1857—J. N. Turner filed lien against Alban and John R. Scranton for two houses on southeast corner of Main and Washington sts., next to former public school lot. Jan 1858—Bought drugstore at Orleans Flat. July 1861—Practicing medicine at Virginia City. Nov 30, 1861—Visiting at Nevada City, Calif. 1862 —Lived at Gold Hill, Nevada. April 1863—Charter member of Gold Hill Masonic Lodge. Nov 1863—Delegate from Storey County to Nevada Constitutional Convention. Jan 1865—Jr. Grand Deacon in Virginia City Grand Lodge, F&AM. May 21, 1868—Mr. and Mrs. Aldersey held a picnic for their Grass Valley school pupils at Alderman’s ranch. 1871—Son Foster Ferber born at Grass Valley. Aug 1872—His barn and blacksmith shop burned southwest of Grass Valley on McCourtney Road. Loss was at least $3,000. Feb 1873—Selected for Nevada County jury duty. Brother of Elizabeth, Wallace, Lillie, Foster, Emily and James. —Worked for father at farming and dairying. —Spent two years herding in Yuba County. April 13, 1880— Married Elizabeth Brooks (b. ca 1857 in Los Angeles), his former schoolmate at Grass Valley. 1880—Dairyman living with widowed mother, siblings and wife Elizabeth 1/2 miles west of Grass Valley on north side of McCourtney Road. June 27, 1894—Sunday School picnic held at Alderman’s ranch. Mrs. E.ALDERSEY( -_ ) —Came to Calif. May 21, 1868—Mr. and Mrs. Aldersey held a picnic for their Grass Valley school pupils at Alderman’s ranch. April 22, 1870—Pupils at her Gold Hill Seminary had a successful exhibition at Hamilton Hall in Grass Valley. May 24, 1870—Her school was to have a summer picnic at Condon’s’ Ranch. Miss Sophie Binkleman would be crowned Queen of May at 10 A.M. July 13, 1870—Advertised to hire a piano for her Gold Hill Seminary. May 1875—Mrs. Aldersey held annual picnic for her Gold Hill students at Alderman’s ranch. July 1875—Elected Lady Assistant Steward of newly organized Grass Valley Grange. Sept 30, 1875—Her school gave its annual exhibition at Hamilton Hall, Grass Valley. DAVID W. ALDRICH ( —Came to Calif. — Married Jennie M . April 1, 1851—Two letters were being held for him at Nevada City post office. Feb 19, 1852—B. Crabtree was prop. of California Hotel at Rough and Ready, Nevada County, formerly kept by Aldrich. May 3, 1852—Defeated for justice of the peace for Bridgeport township. July 1852—Shareholder in Bunker Hill quartz mine. Sept 22, 1854—Bought the Metropolis Hotel (former Phelps’ Hotel) Main St. from Simeon Hussey; added second story. Oct 29, 1854—Served dinner to celebrate reopening of hotel. Dec 23, 1854—Red Dog Stage stops at Metropolis Hotel. Jan 22, 1855—Simon Rosenthal & Bro. won judgment for $115.84 from Mr. & Mrs. Aldrich and Mrs. Stevens. May 7, 1855—Metropolis Hotel ordered sold at auction to satisfy judgment against owners. May 11, 1855—Mr. R. Preston took over the Metropolis.
