1842—Born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
1853—Came with parents to Nevada County, Calif.
—Mined quartz gold for 11 years.
Aug 15, 1868— Married Lizzie Schumer at Nevada City.
May 25, 1869—Son born at Nevada City.
1880—Lived with wife, 2 sons and 3 daughters at Nevada
City. Manufactured cronk beer, wines and brandies.

Sept 30, 1853—Chosen delegate to Pacific Railroad convention at San Francisco.

—Farmed.
1852—Came to Yuba County, Calif. and mined at Strawberry
Valley, Dad’s Gulch and other places in that county.
1862— Married Mrs. Harriet M. Crary (b. in New York; maiden name was Terry, she had married H. M. Crary in 1855
and he died in 1859).
1868 — Was a blacksmith at Smartsville in Yuba County.
1876—Moved to Hunt's Hill in Nevada County and was a
blacksmith.
1880—Lived with wife at Hunt’s Hill and continued his
trade.

Oct 23, 1855—He and wife won their suit against Henry V.
Herbert for $1,200. Sheriff to sell property at Main and
Church streets.
Dec 7, 1855 — Wife, Ann Elizabeth, declared intention to carry
on business in own right as trader in mining claims, operating mines, sale of real estate, loaning money, etc.
Feb 4, 1856—Insolvency hearing in 14th district court.
July 19, 1856—Lost $5,000 when his dwelling burned in the
Nevada City fire.
Dec 24, 1856—He, John Grove, A. D. Allen and three others
owned the Nevada mine at Selby Hill, that produced gold
worth $5,700 in one week.
Aug 20, 1858— Walked through Live Oak tunnel underneath
Sugar Loaf hill.
Sept 1858— Assessed worth was $5,000.
May 13, 1860—Subscribed $100 for military aid after Indian
attack at Washoe mines.
June 15, 1860—Left Nevada City to travel to East.
Sept 1860—Sailed on Great Eastern for Europe.
Feb 5, 1861—Returned to Nevada City; “couldn’t find a better place to live.”
May 20, 1861—Reported to have been commissioned Capt.
of Black Horse Hussars by Gov. John Downey.
May 12, 1869—Was surveying at Shermanstown, White Pine,
Nevada.
