Lives of Nevada County Pioneers
March 1857; daughter of John and Mary Ann Jenkins).
Aug 1885—Son Raymond born in Grass Valley.
July 1887— Daughter Mabel born in Grass Valley.
Dec 1889—Son Watt born in Grass Valley.
1889—He and William B. Bourn Jr. founded Clinch & Co.
mercantile business.
1895—Became partner of butcher L. C. “Neil” Wilhelm
in Wilhelm, Clinch & Co. Lived with wife, 2 sons and a
daughter at corner of School and Neal streets.
Aug 1898 — Daughter Marian born in Grass Valley.
1899— Mayor of Grass Valley. Member of Knights Templar,
Shriners, Odd fellows, Knights of Pythias, Elks and Native
Sons of the Golden West.
1900—Grocer living at Grass Valley with wife, 2 sons and 2
daughters.
Oct 1903—Incorporated Clinch Mercantile Co.
1904—Delegate to Republican national convention at Chicago.
—Daughter Mabel married Ray Eugene Tremeoureux.
1928—Sold store at 115-117 Mill St. to J. C. Penney Co. and
built new store on Bank St.
Feb 21, 1936—Died at 408 Neal St. Grass Valley.
ISABELLE ELIZA CLINCH (c1841)
ca 1841 —Born in Sydney, Australia.
1852—Came to Calif.
— Married Patrick Clinch (b. in Ireland; came to Baltimore,
Maryland, in 1845 and Calif. in 1850.
Oct 31, 1858—Son Charles Edward born in El Dorado County.
ca 1862—Son Willis Ashmun born (probably in El Dorado
County).
1866—Moved to Grass Valley, Nevada County, with family.
Husband Patrick died three months after arrival.
1870—Was a dressmaker, living with sons Charles and Willis
at Grass Valley.
Mr. R. W. CLINCH (1836_)
1836—Born in New Brunswick.
—Worked as railroad conductor.
1862—Went to Fraser River, British Columbia, and mined.
1864— Went to Australia and mined.
1866—Migrated to Amador County, Calif. and mined.
1867—Employed by Central Pacific Railroad. Operated a
snow plow for 6 winters. Took first train to Wadsworth,
Nevada.
1868-69 — Ran water train across the 40-mile desert.
1880—Lived at Truckee, Nevada County. Conductor of
CPRR passenger train between Truckee and Winnemucca.
WILLIS ASHMUN CLINCH (c1862-__)
ca 1862—Born probably in El Dorado Couny, Calif.son of
Patrick (b. in Ireland and came to Baltimore, Maryland, in
1845 and Calif. in 1850) and Eliza Clinch (b. in Sidney, Australia, and came to Calif. in 1852.)
1866—Came to Grass Valley, Nevada County, with parents
and older brother, Charles Edward.
—Father died in Grass Valley 3 months after arrival.
June 1875—Was promoted from Grass Valley 2nd Intermediate School.

JOHN T. CLINE (1832-)
1832—Born in Tennessee.
—Engaged in farming.
1855— Moved to Missouri.
1856—Crossed the plains to Eureka South in Nevada County, Calif. and mined.
1868 — Married Margaret Pfister (b. in Calif.).
1880—Lived at Eureka South with wife, three sons and two
daughters. Agent for the Eureka Lake Ditch Co. Post office
at Graniteville.
MARTIN LUTHER CLINKARD( -_ )
—Came to Calif.
—Worked at Winn’s Fountain Head in San Francisco.
May 19, 1854—Hired by Caroline Frisbie to work in herLadies Ice Cream Saloon, Main Street, Nevada City,
Nevada County.
Aug 10, 1855—Had leased Frisbie’s restaurant.
Jan 1, 1856—Prop. of Frisbie’s restaurant.
ROBERT W. CLOUD (1815-__)
1815—Born in Ohio.
—Came to Calif.
Sept 1850—Built storefront for Peter Decker at Nevada City.
Nov 17, 1850—Was a carpenter at Nevada City. Lived with
trader Charles Breyfogle, and engineers James H. Washington and Lewis W. Shammon (or Shannon or Shamson).
April 1, 1851—Peter Decker left his unsettled business accounts with Cloud when he moved to Marysville.
Aug 2, 1851—Advertised in Nevada Journal: Carpenter and
jobbing shop, Broad St. Undertaking done, ready made
coffins and good hearse on hand.
ELIZABETH LEE CLOUDMAN (1884-1977)
Jan 20, 1884—Born at You Bet, Nevada County, Calif.
—Attended grammar school at You Bet.
1901—Parents and family moved to Berkeley, where she attended high school.
—Graduated from University of Calif. at Berkeley.
—Taught school in Berkeley until her retirement. Member
of Eastern Star, Native Daughters of the Golden West, and
the College Womens Club.
1948—Retired from school teaching.
Jan 7, 1977 —Died in Berkeley.
HAROLD CALDWELL CLOUDMAN (1880-1955)
April 29, 1880—Born at You Bet, Nevada County, Calif.
—Attended grammar school in You Bet.
1901—Parents and family moved to Berkeley.
—Graduated from Berkeley High School
—Graduated from University of Calif.
—Mining engineer in Washington, D.C.
1918—Served in U.S. Army Engineer Corps as a captain during World War I.
—Elected to the Calif. Legislature; served 8 years.
July 28, 1955 —Died in Berkeley.
