This is the only photo we have of Sophia “Sophie” Mader Binklemann (“Grossmuter,” German for
grandmother), the wife of David Binklemann. In this photo from ~ 1908, taken as part of a family collage
that we will be showing later in this document, we believe she is about 78 years old.
David Binklemann officially became a citizen of the United States on July 1, 1858, at the Nevada County
Courthouse.
