This RPPC real photo postcard of “Main St., Grass Valley, Cal.,” is circa ~ 1901, with the trolley in the photo. The cross street here with the horse-drawn carriage on the left is N. Auburn. The Empire Market would have been on the block directly to the left of the photo and back, out of the photo, a couple of buildings. This is the first photo showing this portion of Main Street looking east. 1905 Real photo postcard postmarked 1905 looking down (east) on Main St. right at the junction of Mill Street. The Empire Market would have been down on the right, just before the building that says: “W. D.... Undertaker, Furniture.” It was the fourth business on the right after Mill Street. 145
