Google NCETON This first page of names of the “Grass Valley Business Directory of 1856” shows Binkleman & Co. as bakers on Main Street. It is interesting to note the historical facts that this same directory states that Grass Valley had only four very modest buildings in total in 1851. Just five years later, this directory shows a total of 104 businesses. Later, you will see that in the 1865 Grass Valley Directory, the city became much more extensive and prosperous due mainly to gold quartz mining. 18
