the vein is fairly continuous and has been followed
north from its junction with the X vein for about 4,000
feet. As the drifts approach the contact between
granodiorite and Calaveras formation, the vein undulates on the strike and splits into many branches, and
the gold content is too low to justify stoping. In the
lower levels the width of the vein ranges from less than
1 foot to 3 feet or more. The vein walls are generally
sharp; gouge of variable width and position is present;
and the auartz is commonly sheared or brecciated.
