Wilhelm and Binkleman Family & Friends
We found the following collage of smaller photos folded up in my grandmother’s, Ida Louise Wilhelm
Potter’s, photos. It looks like someone pasted these photos on cheap paper. We guess that it is the
paper a meat market would use. It is possibly Theo Wilhelm’s Empire Market meat wrapping paper.
After some work, we identified all but two people in this collage.
This fantastic collage gives us a view into the year 1907. The Wilhelm family must have been on an
outing. These small photos are reminiscent of the type you can get taken in a small photo booth.
Maybe everyone was out together at a carnival. The people from left to right starting at the top row are
Theo Wilhelm, George Carson (Gert Wilhelm’s fiancé at that time), three of Theo Wilhelm’s girls — Maud
Wilhelm, Gertrude Wilhelm, & Winifred Wilhelm Tyrrell, James C. Tyrrell (husband of Winifred Wilhelm
Tyrrell), Josephine Wilhelm, one L.C. “Neil” Wilhelm’s four daughters, James Tyrrell again, brothers L.C.
(Lawrence Cornelius) “Neil” Wilhelm & Theo Wilhelm, George H. Wilhelm (son of George Jacob “Jake” &
Sophia Binkleman Wilhelm), then three more photos of George H. Wilhelm in this second row, Neil &
Theo Wilhelm with their hats off, Sophie Mader Binklemann, another one of Neil Wilhelm’s daughters,
and three more photos of George H. Wilhelm. George Wilhelm must have been a favorite, or he just
liked having his picture taken numerous times.
