This is a Zoomed-in view of the Sept. 1898 Sanborn Map. It shows that “Mrs. D. Binklemann, Proprietor,
Capacity 8 barrels each brew. Power & water. Fuel wood. Lights & gas. No watchman. Proprietor &
employees live on premises. 7’ between furnace & perforated floor in kiln. City water. Hydraulic &
small hose. 2 employees.” At this point in time, David Binklemann had died, and the business was being
run by Sophie Binklemann and her son, John Binkleman. Also, you can see the “Beer Cooler and Beer
Cellar Best.” in the basement and second floor on this map.
Interestingly, even though the Binklemanns had thirteen children, nine lived to adulthood, and none had
male heirs. So, the David Binklemann line starts and ends in Grass Valley, but he and his family are
recorded and remembered in the history of Grass Valley and Nevada County, California.
