The following is a concise history of the Binklemann Brewery according to the Oldbreweries.com site: Binkleman Breweries listed under Grass Valley, CA Brewery Name Start Date End Date Grass Valley Brewery 1862 1894 Sophie Binklemann 1894 1900 Brewery Binklemann & 1900 1902 Wilhelm Brewery David J. Binkelman 1902 1919 Brewery D. J. Binkelman 1934 1934 Brewery The brewery was originally called the Grass Valley Brewery when David Binklemann owned a half interest in the brewery with John Frank. “At that time, the brewery's site was in the rear of the Western Hotel. In 1856, the brewery burned down. Immediately after the fire, the enterprising firm built a frame building on North Auburn Street. The increase in business soon demanded larger quarters, and the present fine brick building was erected in 1861. Frank Richard bought out John Frank before the brick building was built, and then Mr. Binklemann purchased the Richard interest and has ever since conducted the business.” We are finding David Binklemann’s name spelled Binkleman, Binkelman, and Binkelmann in documents, but he was born with the spelling Binklemann. All of David and Sophie Binklemann’s children were given the last name “Binkleman.” It is worth noting that the above may not be correct. Later, you will see an advertising calendar dated 1906 called the Grass Valley Brewery, Grass Valley, California. So, it is possible that David J. Binkelman never changed the brewery's name until late 1906, or maybe never. The site . got the above information from has useful information on everything but the brewery’s name. The site is: http://www.oldbreweries.com/breweries-by-state/california/grass-valley-ca-7-breweries/grass-valleybrewery-ca-95a/ According to the website: https://books.google.com/books ?id=bLIBAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA191&lpg=PA191&dq=binkelmant+brewery,+ grass+valley+ca&source=bl&ots=yZ4fPESaWn&sig=74PzF1jkhzbGQS7EchajaVpjEc&hl=en&sa=X&ved=OahUKEwjapvaP 7JXUAhWhhIQKHUsZBgIQ6AEIfiALHv=onepage&g=b inkelman%20brewery%2C%20grass%20valley%20ca&f=false There were four major breweries in Grass Valley, California, in 1878: Name No. of barrels produced in 1878. 1.
