“A discovery of rich ore has been made in the winze in the 300 ft. level north of the Kenosha shaft. The streak is 8 to 10 in. wide and carries free gold. The ore is a white quartz, with sulphides and free gold. A cross-cut will now be run on the 400 ft. level to cut this vein.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 405, 3-28-1908 “The Kenosha shaft is rapidly going down. High-grade ore continues to come from the vicinity of the 300 level.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 374, 3-21-1908 “At the Kenosha the shaft is still going down in good ore. Much development work is under way in the 300 ft. level, where excellent ore is exposed. The main orebody is showing well.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 340, 3-14-1908 “High-grade quartz continues to come from the Kenosha Mine. A small force is engaged in sinking the shaft and prosecuting development work. The vein shows improvement.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 275, 2-29-1908 ”Local papers announce the discovery in the Kenosha Mine near Grass Valley of a rich ore-shoot ‘which is said to show a width of nearly four inches of solid gold.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg 244, 2-22-1908 “Sinking continues at the Kenosha and the vein is looking well. Some specimen ore was recently extracted and placed in the vaults of the Nevada County Bank.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 243, 2-22-1908 “Sinking at the Kenosha Mine continues without interruption; the shaft has passed through what the old miners term the ‘hard bar’ and has penetrated much softer ground. Geo. M. Root is manager.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 83, 1-18-1908 “At the Kenosha a small force is developing a promising shoot of ore. The main ore body continues to show well with increased depth. Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 52, 1-11-1908 “Now that the Kenosha Mine has been unwatered, a crew of men are sinking on a good lode. The new machinery is working well and the shaft is making excellent progress.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 762, 12-21-1907 “The working force at the Kenosha was recently increased, and some rich ore is being developed.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 730, 12-14-1907 “The Kenosha mine has been unwatered. The vein in the bottom of the mine is very promising. Sinking will begin at once; stoping will also commence soon.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 699, 12-7-1907 “Another rich strike of ore has been made at the Kenosha on the 300-ft. level. When the shaft was flooded the last blast had just broken into a gody of good ore on the 400-ft. level. The water-level is being rapidly lowered and every one is anxious to get a view of what the last blast on the 400-ft. level had disclosed.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 542, 11-2-1907 “The shaft at the Kenosha is being rapidly unwatered, and it is thought that active operations will commence in a few days. The ore from this property is being handled at the California mill, pending the installation of a plant by the Kenosha Co.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 509 10-26-1907 “A rich shoot of ore has been struck near the 300’ level in the Kenosha. The Cornish pump has been installed on the 300’ level, and sinking on the shaft is about to commence. Geo. W. Root is manager.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 446 10-12-1907 “The work of unwatering the Kenosha is progressing rapidly. The property was last worked 8 years ago when a hoisting and pumping plant was erected and a 10-stamp mill built. The shaft is down 500’ and was once a good producer, being known as the Sneath & Clay property.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 258, 8-31-1907 “unwatering proceeding satisfactorily and foundations for new Cornish pumps are completed. One pump will be place at the 300 and one at the 500’ levels.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 199, 8-17-1907 “Kenosha Mining Co., new pumping plant ordered. There will be 2 Cornish Pumps with a capacity of 1,000’ in depth, driven by electricity, and a new electric hoist will be installed.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 804, 6-29-1907 “Kenosha Mine (Deadman’s Flat) become necessary to increase pumping capacity. Cornish pumps to be purchased.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 419, 4-6-1907 52
