Mason Ranch:
“L. W. Williams and associates have been prospecting a small vein of galena ore in the
vicinity of the Mason ranch, about 12 miles from Grass Valley. A shaft is down 24 ft.,
from which a cross-cut has been driven 18 ft. Samples of ore taken from these workings
gave an average assay value of 6% lead and $3.50 per ton in gold.” Mining & Scientific
Press, pg. 770, 6-5-1909
“Development work is being resumed on the recent discovery of low-grade gold-lead ore
near the Mason ranch, 14 miles from Grass Valley.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 579, 52-1908
“A. D. Foote has abandoned the bond on the Williams-Ryan-Whiting claims, as a
shipment of the ore to a smelter disclosed that the ore was not of good enough grade to
warrant working. Foote still holds the Mason ranch and adjoining 80-acre tract. Williams
and associates state that the vein is valuable, and will work it on their own account.”
Mining & Scientific press, pg. 507, 4-18-1908
“Developments on the Mason ranch have opened a vein which is said to assay from
$22.50 to $50 per ton. The vein has been developed for a length of 22 ft. and this new
district is promising.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 439, 4-4-1908
“Active operations have commenced on property adjoining the Mason ranch recently
bonded by A. D. Foote and associates. A 25 ft. prospect shaft is being sunk and a crosscut will be driven from the bottom of the shaft. A. Hall has been placed in charge of the
work. If the ore proves sufficiently rich, shipments will be made through New England
mills to reduction plants.” Mining & Scientific Press, pg. 405, 3-28-1908
