The Mining and Scientific Press. 121
atock sold for riaGeerifen tay 90 days for redemption,
on the payment to the Secretary of tho amonnt of
asscssincents together with 50 per cent. additioual.
This clanse woald no doubt prove a prolific breeder
of fat advertisements. It might work well in somo
casos, but in most instances it would only have a
tendency to throw hindrances in the way of collecting assesments, and to that extent retard prospecting operations. ‘Tho unthor of tho bill evidently
had oue, if not both eyes, on the important matter
of providing menns for the payment of the advertising, ag ho has incorporated a provision providing
tlint fivo per cent. additional to tho assesmeuts and
all other costs shall be raised for ndvertising. The
A'ta vory properly remarks “ ‘Phis act may be regard.
ed as the most important of the Session.” It certainly will be the “most important” to the pecnuiary
interests of that paper, shonld it pass.
J)oes the daily press of this city stand in need
of Legislative aid in enabling it to retain tbe cashin-advunee, exorbitant rates which tlicy are now demanding for the miaing patronage witb which its
colnuins havo been glatted for the past yenr? We
aro always happy to observo the legitimate prosperity of our fellow ciaftsmen, but we have no sympathy
with the naderhaaded manner of forcing patrosage,
as evinced iu tho construction of this bill.
We presnme the Legislature will etill continue to
have faith eaongh in the jatelligence and judgmeat
of our niining directors and Seretaries to. concede
to them the privilege of exercising their jndgment
in the selection of papers in which to publish their
advertiscments.
MINING SHARE MARKET,
The unhealthy excitement in the Miaiag Sharo
Market, in speculative stocks, coatinues unabated.
The panic in the Real del Monte, is witbout a parallel in the history of stock trnnsactions in this city.
The excitement with regard to the Lady Brynn has
also greatly increased in intensity, so far as to produce tranaactions ia those shares, to au extent greater thaa the entire stock ia the mine. The sales of

Daney has materially improved siace last quotatatioas, with increased transactions. We quote sales
of 953 shares from $95@140, against 672 shares
from $85 (@125 reported last week. This improvement has been caused by the report that rich rock
has again been struck in the mine.
. Lady Bryan has been more active than ever, and
decidedly the speculative feature of the week.
Shares to one-sixtb in excess of the entire stock of tbe
nine have cbanged hands duriag the week. Opeaing at about previous figures, it “ weakened ” considerably towards the middle of the weck, rallied again,
and finally closed at first fignres with a weak market
Yhe reports with regard to the crushing of the ore
recently taken out are very coatlicting and unsatisfactory.
Overman contiaues inactive and may be quoted i
$130@$450, buyer 30.
Potosi remains firm at $1,300@1,310. North Potosi has fouad buyers from $53@5714 >

55 shares of Silver Ifill from 13@14; 25 of lronsides from 12(@12)4 ; 25 of Utah at 29@30. Wide

Real del Monte, still continues a Icading feature
in the market. The transactions of the past week
have exceeded those of tbe week previous, witbout
any material change in the figures. This mine appears to be tbe enigina of the day, whicb the Stockholders, bowever, have determiaed to solve, as will
be noticed by the report, e’sewhere, of their nieeting last cvening. Bullion to the amount of $86,000
has beea received front the mine, thus far, during the
