170 on — The Mining and Seientitic Dress, Terre Stock Bosrps i Vircinia Crry—aAccording to the Virginia papers, mining stock business must be pretty hrisk in that city. It appears that the old original “ Washoe Stock and Exchange Board ” was found quite too contracted. some weeks since, to hold the brokers that sought to avail themselves of its facilities for doing husiness. Accordingly the surplus material organized themselves into a second board, kuown as the “ People’s Board.” This board has now inits turn become over-crowded, and another swarta has gone forth and organized the “ Territorial Stock aud Exchange Board,” according to the Enterprise, while the Union gives us “The Virginia Stock Market ” as the title appropriated by the new orgauization. The meetings of this third board are to be held in the large hall in George F. Jones’ huilding, on B street. Some thirty-five or forty members were present at the organization. Scats in the second board are held at $200. Prosrectine ror Coan.—The Virginia Union notices the organization ofa coal mining company in that city, for the purpose of prospecting’a coal indication, located within about three miles of that city, in a south-eastern direction. The company is now sinking, under the direction of an experienced collier, formerly from England, and more latterly from the Pennyslvania coal mines. The indications, thus far, are pronounced remarkably good. A good mine of coal at so short a distance frora Virginia would be afine thing for the people, and the owners would have no cause to envy even the rich silver vein of the Gould & Curry. The sandstone rock through which they are now working is similar in appcarance to that which is found in the coal mines in Pennsylvania . A Somewaar Sincunar Fact connected with the waters of Humboldt lake and slough is that the waters of hoth are much more saline and impure after a high wind thau at other times. This is explained in the Virginia City Union hy the fact that the salt water, being the heaviest, sinks to the hottom, and is stirred up and mixed with the fresher stratum on top when agitated by the wind; the alkaline substances deposited on the shores being at thesame time washed off and diffused through the main body of the lake. Litteanion In WasnoE—The Virginia City Union, of March 6th, publishes the District Court Calendar for the term commencing March 7th, from which it appears that the criminal calendar contains 181 cases, the law calendar 256, and the cquity calendar 48 cases—in all 485 cases. Of the 304 civil cases, 217 are mining disputes. When we reflect upon this immense mass of litigation, it is little to be wondered at that we have so few dividend-paying mines in Washoe. THE Weex’s Butiion.—The weight and value of bullion shipped from Virginia City, during the weck ending March 5, amouuted to 7,694 pounds, valued at $245,786.77, beiug a slight increase on the shipment of any weck during 1864. Crocxer’s AssEssuent Lepcrr.—We hear experienced secretaries speaking favorably of this laborsaving book. ‘The testimony of others will be found in the publisher's advertisement, in our paper. Piumnaco.—A vein of plumbago, or black lead, (graphite) according to the Reese River Reveille, has recently heen discovered in Summit district. The vein is said to be two and a-half feet thick. Nevapa Dany Gazerre.—Judge Stidger has removed the North San Juan Press office to Nevada City, and now issues a lively daily at the county seat of Nevada county. Mr. A. F. Buoop, of Taylorsville, sends ns the cash for a list of subscribers living in Indian Valley, . Plumas county, oue of the pleasantest little vales in California, rich iu both agriculture and minerals.
