froni exploring shafts and tuunels, and no particular
atteution has been devoted to it. The company are
expecting soon to fiud good roek in their lower tunnel, whichis uow being driven through very soft
ground.
A Sunrerranean Srrean.—The tunnel of the Gilmore Company, American Flat, Says the Territorial
Enterprise, is on the point of cuttiug a large stream
of water. he tunnel is now in 525 feet and is fast
approaching this stream, the noisc of its waters
being daily niore distinetly heard, It is supposed
that a large lead, as well as a large stream of water,
wiil shortly be strnek.
passed through one lead of much promise, und
should the one they soon expect to strike not prove
satisfaetory, they will go back and develope this ouc,
their front lead.
Tur Jensy Livp is an old location, just north of
the American Flat. ‘The first tunnel commeuced by
this company was abandoned after running 200 feet.
Two shatts were subsequently started and in time
abandoned. A third was started in January last,
whieli is still in progress. No drift will be run until
the shaft is 200 feet deep, wlten it must be very near
the ledze. Expectatious are on the qui vive as to
what will be fuund when they reaeh the vein with
this shaft.
Navou£ox Consonipaten, located just west of the
Anmeriean Flat, has: had considerable work doue
upon it, in various times, sinee its locatiou in 1860,
amounting in theaggregate to quite exteusive mining works. ‘The work in tlie elotm, latterly, has beeu
devoted to running a tunnel to strike the vein at a
lower point than heretofore attempted, and is by far)
the wost extcusive of any work hitherto attempted
in the claim. It is now iu about 300) feet, half the
distance through blasting rock. The tunnel is
‘thought to be close npon the main ledge. Judging
from surface indications the proprictors entertain
strong hopes of striking a good vein. Jtich developnents are confidently expected iu that vieiuity at an
early day, independent of this mine.
Besr & Betcner.—There is still a large influx of
water at this mine, making a steady use ofthe pump
necessary, though it by ‘no means requires the full
power of the pump to keep the work's drained.
HUMBOLDT.
Tue Sneza is still pushing its work ahead, employing ey hands. Large lots of first elass ore is
shipped to San Fraucisco for Europe. A uew featore at this mine, suys the Humboldt Register, is
the sluicing appar: atus, for saving small partieles of
“yieh ore. This employs a string of menand boys,
who save {housands of dollars by assorting mineral
from waste roek and putting it through the jiggers,
to take off the earthy matter. This jigging business is not cmployed in any other silver mine ie the
erritory. Fifty tons of maehinery for this” mill
were at Red Bluff on the 23d ult., awaiting teams.
A contract has been made for the required lumber,
whieh is to be delivered the 25th inst.
Tue Ds Soro.—Superintendent Fewell is getting
out some ore for shipment to this city. A lot of ore
was recently worked at the Star mill, after roasting,
with a fine result, according to the Iegister.
metal cannot be cxtracted from these antimonial
ores by any mill process yet iutrodueed, without
previous roasting. A tunnel will soou be eommeneed to strike the ledge fifty feet deeper than it has
hitherto been opened. The old tunuel will hereafter
be used mainly for veutilating purposes. ‘Twelve
men are constantly employed at this nine.
Tus Un:irep Srares—A small lot of roek from
this mize was put through a mill process some three
weeks since, and yielded $210 to-the ton. Mr.
Root, who ownsa large interest in this mine, has
hudertaken its managemeut, and thiuks he can make
the work of development pay as it progresses. He
has already several tons of ore.out, which he thinks
is quite as rich as the sample above inentioned.
Mooxticur.—A large quantity of second elass ore
from this ledge, thrown aside when the work was in
progress, is now being hauled to Fall's mill to be
crushed.
Gex or Sterra.—A new lelge was struck in this
claim about three weeks siuce, showing an abundance of metal of the same charaeter as the old
ledge. Seven tuns were takeu ovee to Lang Syue
mi
Tum Evexinc Star.—lwo and a half tous of ore
from this mine, was worked at Fall's mill a few days
since, whieh yielded $1,000.28 in bullion—$.100 per
ton. ‘fhe vein from whieh this rock was taken out
is'said to be well defined, and from 214 to 3 feet
thiek. The Superintendent sta‘es that he will proceed, at ouce, to take out a large quantity of oro at
this point,
