prefer the latter course. In view of the dull
state of the business, the proprictors are rathier benefited thereby.
Tne English sparrows which huve been ind4roduced into Jersey have cleaned the trees
entirely of the worms, <A pair will destroy
six hundred caterpillers daily in feeding their
young. ‘The robin of this country is equally as
‘good a tree vermifuge.and ought not to be
killed by sportsmen. They are now found in
our public squares, doing the work of clearing
the trees of vermnin.

The relative gtinding ‘capacities of “The Excelsior” Grinder
and Amalgamator, of the Flat Bowtomed Pau, and of the Coaical
Pan when properly constructed, nre respectively 177, 98 and 110.
That is, ihe respective mullers being of the same diameter,
snme weight, same hurdness, aud running at the came velocity}
“The Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator’” will reduce one hune
dred ani seventy-seven tons of ore, the Flat Bottomed Pan ninetycieht tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred and ten tons to the
same dverce of fineness in the-same time.
The wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfacesin the
Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator, is perfectly uniform, thus
securing cvenness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness
of motion to the muller.

As a whole, it is far superior to any other pan in use.

Those using this invention certify that they thoronghly reduce
five tons of ore, as it ordinarily comes from the wet battery, per
day in cach pan, four feet diameter, the muller making sixty-five
revolutions per minute.
