drift in the Latrube tannel, at Virginia City,
were completely slint in from their regulur
exit, a few days since, bya cave. J*ortauately
for the minera, however, they were enabled to
find their way to the surfaee by auother route,
and came up through the shaft of the Central
mine. ‘The grouad about the Comstoek lead
is 80 completely honeyeombed with shafts and .
drifts that it ia almost impossible for a person
to get completely shut oat from exit to the
sarface.

Take a fruit bad froma soar apple tree
and another from a sweet apple tree, eat them
in halves, join the hulf of the sour to the half of
sweet, and “bud” as uasnal. If carefally
mauipnlated will it not grow ; and if so what
would be the charaeter of the fruit ?
