276 The Mining andl Seientific Dress.
¥rom the Stock Circular of Associated Brokers of the 8. F. Stock & Exchange Board.
San Francisco, Sarurpay Mornine, November 4th, 1865.
A more active demand prevails for moncyin Bank and upon the
street, but the requirement is not yet of sufficient urgency to materially
affect current rates of interest for acceptable securities, ur to impede
the negotiatione nf parties in good credit. Without any appearance
of stringency, there is an evident tendency to 2 higher rauge of quotations for money. ‘The deposits iu the different banking institattons of
this city do not probably exceed 35,000,000 at this time, as against
$8,000,000 in available cash means on hand August Ist, and the
amount under discount now is said to be larger than it has been for
nionths past.
‘The agaregate receipts of ‘T'reasurc, from all sources, during the
month of October, amounted to $4,250,000, and since the first iustaut
sole $500,000 has been received.
.\ good demand is likely to prevail for hulliow in a day or two, but
the rates thus far have showu little or uo variation from last week,.and
gold bars are selling at 850@860 for average grades. Silver may be
be quoted at par to 14 @ cent premium.
‘The mining share market has exhibited little or no vitality this week.
Transactious at the Board have been much lighter than usual, and
were chiefly coufined to a few leading stocks, in which operations have
becn made from day to day without much regard to the character of
advices from Nevada. The aggregate yield of all the mines on the
Cometock, including Gold Hill proper, proves, during the paet month,
to be larger than was anticipated, and exceeded $1,075,000. There is
likely to hea larger bullion product thie month, from all that we can
learn, and a number of claims hitherto heavily in debt will probably
goon be in a condition to cancel a very considerable portion of their
liabilities. Expenditures have been made without etint during the
past three or four months, not only for timber. supplies, etc., for tbe
winter, but in the development of new bodies of ore, for the purchase
of mills and machinery of all kinds, in sinking new and expensive
shafts, etc., ete. Notwithstandiug all these extraordinary disbursemente, the aggregate debt of the leading claims dealt iu at the Board
is less than it was in June last, without regard to the aseessmente
paid since then. With scarce an exception all ore-producing mines
have of late been making some money over aud above ordinary expenses, and pow that their extraordinary expenditures are to be
materially less than for some time past, we may confideutly expect
their affairs to assume a better shape at no distant day. As to the
quantity of ore disclosed at this time, in the lower levels of leading
niiues, some contend that it will compare favorably with any former
period since May last; while others maintain that there is now lese
ure in sight than there has been for months past.
Alpha met with trifling sales at $925, aud is now offered at
$900, buyer 30. Advices from this claim speak of some improvenient in the lower level, from which portion of the imine good ore can
soou be taken. Gould & Curry rose from $975 to $1,025, and then
sold at $1,000, closing at $1,050 asked.
Yellow Jacket has shown rather more eteadiness, without any
improvement, however, advanciug from $760 to $825, buyer 30, then
selling at $7421¢, and closing at $740. During the week ending October
23d, 1034 tons first class aud 1,834 tons secoud clase ores were extracted from the miue. In the eame period 1,334 tons second class
ures were reduced (879 tons ut outside mills and 455 tons at the company’e mill), yielding in the aggrecate $37,701, or an average of $28.25
per ton fron: partial returus. An accident last week to the steam
power of the Morgan mill has sinco then reduced its crushing capacity
from 90 to 30 tons per day, but the necessary repairs will be completed
in a few days.
‘Savage has been less active, aud 20 feet. were sold within a range of
$775(@825, closing at $80214. Receipts of bullion last month amounted
to $137,000—an increase of $40,500 over the month of September,
and the financial affairs of this company will probably soon chow a
material improvement. In the fifth level a width of 35 feet hae been
breaeted out. The east corner contains a very rich streak of ore, and
the west end also looks well. Througbout the drift 40 feet acroes the
Potosi chimney the ore ie thought to compare favorably with tbe body
breasted out. Late crushings of ore from this mine average about $39
er tou.
= Crown Point has been very inactive and dull at $800@725, closing
at $710 bid. Ata depth of 20 feet below the 230-feet level, the west
stratum is turning out eome good ore, and above the 160-feet level, in
drifting south a ledge of fair cre 3 feet iu width has been disclosed.
Belcher rose frou $480 to $550, receded to $470, and sold yesterday at $450.
Ophir continues to be well maintained, in view of the decliue in
other stocks, and 100 feet were dealt in, advancing from $385 to $425,
receding to $4124, rallying to $425, aud closing yesterday at $380.
From the 15th to the 29th of October, 970 tons of ore were sent to
the Woodworth mill, which will yield somc $28,000 net; and during
the same period 108 tons, worth about $10,000, were delivered at tbe
Washoe mill, nearly all of which was taken from the fourth gallery of
the south miue. Owing to an accident to the Woodworth mill, receipte
of bullion were light last montb, and amounted to less than $20,000.
The eouth drift fron the Mexican shalt. in the ninth gallery, is now
underway again, and preparations are being made to drift east also at
the same depth. It is rumored that 2 new adjustment with the Moecow
gives to the Opbir company 2,700 shares stock at $15 per share,
tozetber with 800 feet of ground in the former claim, leaving 1,400
shares of stock, and the balance of the ground in litigation, to the
Burning Moscow company.
Chollar receded from $395 to $375@$370, and sold yesterday
at $335@340. Potosi rose from $350 to $375, cash, and $380, buyer
30, dropped to $33814, then sold at 320, aud closed at $328. Advices
from these mines are regarded with favor by those who seem to be
well informed as to their real condition. During the week ending
October 27th, 412 tons of ore were seut to custom mills, yielding $38
(@$40 per tou, lees $17 per ton for hauling and reduction. In the
same week 350 tons of ore were sold at $8, and 10 tons at $35 per
ton. Inthe Potosi ground, the Grass Valley station is eaid to look
well, and the drift from the Bajazette level, running north, continues
in good ore. In drifting eouth from the fifth etation a emall body of
“ splendid black sulphuret ore” has beeu met with this week. The
Grass Valley station of the Chollar mine shows considerable improvement, and is now paying better than auy other portion of the claim.
In the old workings between the third and fourth stations, the southeast drift bas been driven tbrough to the east eide of the ore limit,
and discloses a larger body than was thought to exiet at that point.
The new ehaft has been timbered to a depth of 475 feet, and a drift
will be started at once.
Hale & Noreross has been sold within a range of $300@%260,
closing at $260. Empire Mill and Mining company advanced from
$170 to $182, and closed at about $155. From the upper levels of
the nortb and south mine somo good ore has been taken recently, and
preparationa are being made to sink still deeper from the 600-feet level.
Overman has been sold within a range vf $88@72, closing at $74.
Imperial fell from $192 to $185, rallied to 18714. receded to $170,
then sold $175, and closed yesterday at $17214. ‘The last “clean up”
from the company’s two inills shows a decided improvement in the ore
reduced recently, and yielded $46.000, making the aggregate receipts
since 10th of Oct. (including balance of $21,000 then on hand)—about
$118,000. During the month of October, extraordinary disbursemeuts,
amounting to $25,000, were made in payment of taxes, supplies purchased some time since, and the first installment due on account of
their new mill, but the regular dividend will be declared to-day, leaving
_a surplus in tbe treasury of the company. The entire expenses for the
current month will probably uot exceed $60,000, and witli the addition
of tbe Lindauer mill, larger receipts may be anticipated than in October. A full month’s reserve of ore bas been accumluated at the Rock
Point mill.
