The Biining and Scientific Lress, 29
Palmer’e mill, last week, yielded $40 to the
ton. The mines at Quaker Will are payiug
well. The claims of Jacobs & Surgent aro
yielding large amounts. ‘he result of the last
ten duys was $1,800. The claime are very extensivo and will pay for years to come.
It is etuted that the “ Homeward Bound ”
cluim, near Grass Valley, has been gold on private terms to parties in this city. he report
thut the “ Eniperor”’ had sold his—the “ Eureka ’mine-—for $100,000, is contradicted. It
is said that $60,000 have been realized from
this mine the past month. The claim owned
by H. Barnett and Geo. D. Reoherts, near Union Ifill, has been sold for $200,000.
Sierra Cocyty.—We condense the following items from the Messenger: .A company
from Eureka are about to commence proepecting tlhe old Craycroft diggings on the ridge
between the North’aud Middle forks of the
Yuba river. ‘Iliese diggings paid very well at
ouo timo, but have been ubaudoued since the
Frazer river excitement. ‘he last clean up of
the Kanaka mill gave some nine thousand dollars ag tho result. The Union Quartz Company, at Wet ravine, have got the ledge after
one year’s labor, running a hed rock tunnel
which cost them from five to twenty dollars
per foot. ‘The ledge is very rich, and it is said
they renlized $57,000 for twelve days’ ran.
A valuable quartz discovery is reported at
Jackson's Ranch, ou the Ifeaness Pass road.
Several ledges lave been discovered, showing
free gold in abuudance. Hxtensive preparations
aro being inade to start the Gold Valley
Quartz Mill. ‘Phey have a fine mill and ledge,
that wil supply auy amouut of quartz that
assays from $40 to $200 per ton. ‘The difhculty has been to save the gold, which is all ia
the sulphurets. Mr. Smith, the superintendent, proposes to try the roasting process. It
will succeed.
Purmae.—The Quincey Union chronicles
the following: Mining on the North Fork
hae taken a new etart this ecason. There are
over twenty new claims being opened. All of
the “bank” claims are paying well. There
are more men at work in that locality thau
there have been for ycars before. Fyheart &
Co., at Humbug Valley, are at, work in their
claims, and are averagiug about one-half ounce
per day. ‘Tripp, Cable & Co., on the North
Fork, for one day’s work of three men, took
out eight ounces from their claim, one day last
week. Their claim averages one ounce per
day to the hand. The Cosmopolitan Company has made © contract with Messrs. Bolinger & Blood to furnish them with two thousand tons of ore from the Cosmopolitan
(Northern) Copper Ledge.
It is reported that Bidwell & Co. intend
building a large twenty-four stamp steam
quartz mill, at Greenville, to work the quartz
from the McClellan Ledge. Bidwell & Co's
mill, located at Greanville, recently took out
$17,000 in one month’s run, with eleven
stamps.
Siskivou—The New York Quartz Company, two weeks ago, took out of their claims
$900 in gold, ard 500 lbs, of very rich sulphurets, in six days’ ran.
The Klamath News says the continued dry
weather promises a, great obstacle to euccessful
mining operations on the Klamath during the
coming Summer. ‘The snow on the mountains
is fast disanpearing, the river falling, and the
little streams upon which the miners depend
for their supply of water are falling rapidly.
