324 Ghe Mining an Scientific Press.
From the Stock Circular of Associated Brokers of the 8. F. Stock & Exchange Board.
San Francisco, Satuspay Mornino, November 25th, 1865.
It is still difficult to negotiate nnything but prime paper. and that
for the most part must be Iree from the taint of inining stock speculations. Although there has been a determination of late to hold in
check the flood of wining paper, in one form or anotber, with which
the market has beea deluged, and to restrain the spirit of specnlation
which in times past has often pushed this interest into n position perilous to itself and to other important interests among us, there is now
rather more disposition to accept certain mining shares as the basis of
loans, nid a number vf negotiations of this charncter have been n1ade
during the week. ‘Ibe curvent rate in bank is 114@1}4 @ cent. per
month. d
The receipts of treasure since our last reference have reached
$1,300,000, making an aggregate of $3,400,000 thus far during the
current month. ‘The market is not largely supplied with bullion, but
the demand is light and sales of gold bars bave been niade at 830@
840. Silver is held at 14 # cent premium to 14 4 cent disconnt.
An important rolly in all mining sbares was inaugurated at the close
of last week, aud the movement continued for several days, when a
stampede took place and every stock on the list inet with a decline.
Since tbeu the market has evinced rather more stendiness, with no
tendency to higher figures for sine stocks. Advices from Nevada
are thought to be rather more encouraging with respect to the futare
of certain claims, und it is stated by those who onght to be well informed, that a prominent bauking institution in this city (upon whom
many parties usually rely in the negotiation of their stock collateral
loans), is again extending its favors in that direction, with, however,
more discrimination than formerly. City stocks are for the most part
held with firmness, but a decline in some shares may be noted.
California Steam Navigation fell from 368 to $60, seller 30, rallied
to $65, then sold at $70, and closed at $69 asked. We are authorized to state that this Company have bought of Mr. J. B. Dickinson
the screw steamships Ajax and California, both of which are to be
_actively employed in the coast trade. These vessels are new and of
the most substantial character, and it is believed that their purchase
will not interfere materially with the regular dividends of the company.
owing to the large surplus on hand. ‘The disbursements required for
the first installment due upon these sbips, will serve to explain why
the last dividend was paid in Legal ‘Tender notes, but it is likely that
no more will be made in the same kind of funds.
Gould & Curry rose from $850 to $920, tben sold at $950, nnd
closed ut about $975 asked. Their mill has recently been crushing an
average of 120 tous of ore per day, and outsidg mills nre reducing
abont 20 tous daily. ‘he nunual report of this company will, it is
thought, present some encouraging features ns to its present condition
and future prospects. ‘Ihe suit instituted in this city a short time
siuee by the Seneca Company, .against the Gould & Curry claim, 30
far as we can learn, is of little or no importance. The Seneca Cumpauy was perpetually enjoined a short time since, and made no appeal
from so effectual 2 disposition of their case by the courts of Nevnda.
'’he North Potosi, and Bajazette and Golden Ira suits against the
Savage and Potosi companies, it will be remembered, were aualogous
cases, and the attempt to revive, at this time, a similar cause of action
against the Gould & Curry Company is, to say the lenst, a very peculiar proceeding.
Alpha rose from $680 to $950, receded to $815, rallied to $820,
seller 30, dropped to $790, sold on Thursday nt $800, and closed at
$860. Recent developments in tbe lawer level are favorable, aud it is
thougbt that a large body of good oye will soon be disclosed in that
portion of the mine, ‘
Savage has been actively dealt in, and some 50 feet were sold, ndyancing from $620 to $775, buyer 30, receding to $640, then selling at
$670@655, and closing at $760, assessment delinquent. ‘he repairs
to the shaft were completed an ‘Tuesday last, and since then an avernge of some 200 tons of ore per day have been hoisted to tbe surface.
Arrangements have been made with outside wills to crusb 150 tons
daily, and the Minnesota will will also reduce about 25 tons per day.
Tbe financial condition of this company is now about as follows ;
{immediate liabilities, $231,000; due upon the Minnesota mill, $40,(00 in monthly installments of $5,000 each—in all $271,000. From
the recent assessment $70,000 will vet be reeeived, reducing the actual
indebtedness of the company to about $200,000.
Yellow Jacket was in decided request early in the week. and rapidly
rose from $545 to $750. buyer 20, then drupping as suddenly to $58u,
rallyiny to $600, selling on ‘Thursday ut $595@$565, and clusing yesterday at $620, "Tbe southwest drift is suid to have met with a
deposit of good ore, aud in the north end of the mine very rich ore has
been [ound this week. Drifting has beguu in the different levels froin
the new or south shalt. During the week cnding November 6th, 940
tons were extracted, and 630 tons were worked, yielding $17,969.62,
or an average of $28.40 per ton. .
Crown Point ndvanced from $750 to $830, fell to $700, seller 30,
rallied to $720, and sold at the close ut $760. During the week ending
Noveiuber 18th, 296 tous of ore were reduced by the company’s two
mills, In the lower level drift pay ore has been met with, and the indications are suid to be favorable. The south incline on the west
stratum is now down 64 feet trom the 230-feet level, and the ore improving. ‘The north incline is 59 feet deep, and also looks better. In
the east strutum the incline has attuined a depth of 46 feet, and the
pay streak carries fine ore, but is narruw. rom the north end of the
he above the 230 and 160-feet levels, some good ore continues to be
akeu.
Beleber fell from $400 to $295, rallied to $305, and sold yesterday
at $320. , Little or no progress has been made receutly in the dritts
from the two lower levels, owing to a continued influx of water. ‘Ibe
debt of this company is now about $100,000.
Ophir rose from $340 to $415, buyer 30, then selling at $400, and
closing yesterday ut $395. Receipts of bullion during the first hall of
this mouth amounted to $32,863, and the indebtedness of the company
is being materially reduced. ,
Chollar-Potosi advanced from $255 to $335, fell to $27734, and sold
yesterday at $295@292. During the week ending Lith instant, 330
tons of ore were sent to custom-mills, 208 tons were sold at $8 per ton,
46 at $7, and 109 at $5. In the Bajnzeite gronnd the north drift is in
30 feet, and continues in good ure. ‘The drilt sonth, east of the pay
seani, is also in 30 feet, and has rn iuto good ore. ‘The new developnents on the south end of the Potosi, now cammunicate with the 5th
station of the Chollar, and it is said that a large quautity of ore can
yet be takeu from that point. The drift from the new shaftis now
under way. ‘Ihe total linbilities of this compnny now amount to some
$250,000. P
Empire Mill and Mining Compnny rose from $155 to $185, nnd
closes at about $175. The drift, 139 feet west of tha shnft, at
n depth of 160 feet, has cut a vein of fair ore some 20 feet in width, in
hitherto unprospected ground, and it is thougbt to reach within 30 feet
of the suriace. Abuut 1,000 tons of ore will be hoisted this nionth
mainly from that portion of the mine, nnd it is thought the compauy
will be out of debt on the Ist of January next.
Imperial rose from $148 to $155, fell to $145, rallied to $152),
dropped to $138, nnd sold yesterday at $136@$131. Receipts of
bull:on this month show a mnterin! falling off as compared witb same
period last month.
Hale & Noreross rose to $170, fell to $155, and rallied to $200,
ngain declined to $155, and sold yesterday at $205. Confidence was
dealt in at S60@362, closing at $60.
Overman rose from $38 to $58, fell to $52, rallied to $49, nnd soldat the close at $40. ‘
Bullion advanced from $35 to $70, buyer 30, steadily declined to
$42. and sold yesterday nt $40. Exchequer has been dealt in within
n range of $10 and $16, closing at $15. Sierra Nevada sold at $7@36.
' ea Eisai! snles of Stocks, since Snturdny last inclusive, amounted
0 $772,340.
